I really recommend reading up on all the new features and seeing how your game can benefit. I also want to reserve this space specifically for grantees to ask questions related to the update. You are always welcome to make tickets and seek community support on Discord, but as we’re in the last month of this program, I want to make sure you get timely help here as well.
I understand updates can come with frustrations as they may introduce new bugs or make you reconsider how to implement certain features. I will be discussing with the DAO Admin Team how I can best support your continued development going forward. In the mean time, I want to direct you to the documentation I wrote:
Game Maker 0.12 Changelog - this has info on all the new features and how to use them. Other pages related specifically to components, behaviors, and rules still need to be updated, but the changelog will have most of the info you need.
0.12 Upgrade Guide - this is specifically for creators who have already started projects in older versions and how their experience might be impacted by migrating it to the latest version.
Highlights of the changes are:
SAVE GAMES: optionally save inventory, variables, quests, and checkpoints.
This update couldn’t have come at a better time. The Save Game feature and new NPC systems will significantly enhance gameplay for Legends of Lagos, allowing us to offer deeper progression and more immersive interactions. Appreciate the dedicated space for support, it really helps during these last key weeks. I’ll be diving into the docs and may follow up with specific questions as we align our game flow with 0.12. Thanks again for keeping us in the loop and actively supporting creators through the transition.
Rules are located in the gameplay tab now. I’d recommend turning on the auto-save feature from settings. And every few hours make a manual back-up by duplicating your project from the main menu. I’m not sure what happens if it crashes during a save. If it gets corrupted, the backup will minimize your loss. Worst case I can talk to the official team and see if we can revert you to a previous save before the corruption. Hopefully something we never need to worry about.
Rules didn’t really change much, it’s just in the Gameplay tab now. But anything about rules and objectives from 0.11 should still be accurate.
Main new thing is that now you can use the status check rules to sense what a player has done or not done with quests and use that to resume the game status after reloading a saved game.
Make sure the message for the task is actually sending. Sometimes I will put something else like a Speaker or Sound component to make sure I have visual/audio confirmation that the message is actually sent.
If the game is multiplayer, make sure that the messages being sent to the objective are coming from mp/sync behaviors and catalysts. SP messages don’t work for objectives when it’s a multiplayer game because the objectives process on the mp server.
If you show me a screenshot or video of the objective logic and what is supposed to be activating it maybe I can help in more detail.
So it looks like you’re using a collection type quest, which actually doesn’t need a collection message to make the quest work. You need tags on the asset which are added on the bottom. Any collectible item you pick up with the correct tag will count toward the quest. Make sure spelling/spaces/capitalization all match and press enter after typing to add the tag.
Hello everyone. I realized that I may have made a bad assumption and neglected to talk about LAND purchasing for those who don’t already have it. I know some of the grantees here have been LAND owners for a long time, and my brain got stuck in that mode, but we do have a few newer members to the community.
To be clear, it’s free to publish and republish as many times as you like in The Sandbox, but you do need to own a LAND to publish on. On the secondary market OpenSea you’ll find these for about $180 worth of ETH or WETH. The size of your game corresponds to the number of LAND you need, so a 1x1 game needs 1 LAND, a 2x2 game needs 4 LAND, etc. It’s important to note that LANDs must be adjacent and in the correct shape (2x1 vs. 1x2) in order to publish larger games. You cannot publish a 2x2 game if you own 4 scattered LANDs or all 4 in a straight row.
The cost of LANDs needed should have been factored into your budget, but because my brain was set thinking about experienced game creators, I forgot to check if this was accounted for in the budget. We have a little bit of wiggle room left to make sure that LAND is acquired, so please let me know if that was missing from your planning and I will adjust the proposal total. We should make sure that the LAND is purchased as soon as possible since we never know what the market will do and the price could jump up.
Specifically tagging @Aremion and @Damian as I know the other grantees already own LAND and are familiar with what to do. Don’t hesitate to DM me if you need help in the purchasing process and let’s add the expense to your next invoice.
Hey everyone, I am hearing that we need to finish up milestones by the end of the week. I will do everything I can to get you over the finish line here. Please don’t hesitate to ping me in your own grant threads, DM me here, or email alex@thecouncil.tech (that might get a slightly faster reply, though all notifications go to that same email as well).
I am usually available 8am to almost midnight in Eastern Time (New York City). Besides my scheduled live streams and family obligations my schedule mostly open this week to assist whatever you need. At the moment I’m catching up on messages and obligations before bed, and all tomorrow morning is DAO focused as well.
