BallotDAO: Simplifying DAO Governance Through User-Friendly Voting

1. Project Overview

BallotDAO is a lightweight, Web3-based voting interface designed to simplify how members participate in DAO governance within The Sandbox ecosystem. Built with React and Next.js, BallotDAO makes proposal voting intuitive and accessible, especially for non-technical users and first-time DAO participants.

The primary goal of BallotDAO is to increase voter participation and engagement by eliminating the complexity often associated with governance platforms. Through clear UI/UX design, wallet integrations (e.g., Ethereum/Polygon), onboarding modals, and educational tooltips, the platform empowers creators and community members to confidently cast votes and understand DAO proposals.

BallotDAO targets creators, developers, and community members within The Sandbox who want to participate in governance but are discouraged by poor UX or lack of onboarding. By streamlining the voting process, BallotDAO strengthens The Sandbox’s decentralized decision-making while expanding access to governance tools across Web3.

2. Problem Identification

DAO governance in The Sandbox can be intimidating for new and non-technical users due to:

  • Confusing voting interfaces
  • Lack of onboarding or explainer content
  • Friction in wallet connection or navigation

Based on feedback from other DAOs and personal experience as a full-stack developer contributing to governance-focused hackathons, it’s clear that poor UX and unclear voting logic are major barriers. Many builders want to vote, but don’t know how or where to begin. This friction results in low turnout and underrepresented voices, especially from emerging regions.

BallotDAO addresses this with a focused, easy-to-use voting tool that explains, guides, and removes the guesswork from the governance process.

3. Solution Approach

BallotDAO offers a frictionless, guided governance experience through:

  • React/Next.js frontend optimized for speed and accessibility
  • Wallet integration (via Wagmi + RainbowKit for Polygon & Ethereum)
  • Proposal presentation layer that simplifies reading and voting
  • Educational overlays to explain proposal types and voting outcomes
  • Responsive design for access on both mobile and desktop
  • Deployable on Vercel with open-source code for transparency

Unlike existing governance platforms like Snapshot (which often overwhelm first-time users), BallotDAO is laser-focused on clarity and onboarding. It doesn’t require token-intensive proposals to understand how to vote. It shows live status, includes tooltips for terminology, and walks users through each action.

This solution is ideal for The Sandbox’s diverse global community and supports its mission to empower creators everywhere—especially those without deep technical backgrounds.

4. Impact Measurement

Metric Target Outcome
Unique wallet connections 300+ unique voters in pilot period
Proposal votes cast via BallotDAO 200+ total votes submitted
Onboarding content view rate ≥ 60% modal/tooltips engagement rate
Workshop attendance (live) 50+ participants in live onboarding
User feedback (satisfaction score) ≥ 80% positive feedback post-pilot

Success will be evaluated through analytics dashboards (e.g., wallet connections, click-through rates) and user surveys distributed via Discord and Twitter post-launch.

7. Budget Allocation & Sustainability

Category Cost (USD)
Development (UI/UX, logic) $1,000
Wallet integration & testing $300
Educational overlays/tooltips $200
Community workshop & promo $300
Reporting + maintenance $200

I mean this idea does look pretty cool but I’ll need to tap @Money as he is the Domain allocator for Edu, Onboarding, Tech

Thanks for your submission. Love the idea and direction you are going with this as governance can get bogged down sometimes just in interface alone. Can you share how this would interact/replace with the DAOs current voting structure and platform?

Hey @Lanzer and @Money, thank you both for the feedback! :folded_hands:
I really appreciate your interest in BallotDAO.

To answer your question, @Money:
BallotDAO isn’t intended to replace the DAO’s existing voting structure or Snapshot platform. Instead, it’s designed to work as an onboarding and simulation layer that:

  • Educates new users on governance mechanisms in an intuitive way
  • Visualizes active and historic proposals to reduce cognitive overload
  • Provides a gamified simulation mode where users can mock vote, propose sample ideas, and learn from feedback
  • Offers a framework for feedback aggregation before actual proposals hit Snapshot

Think of it as a “governance playground”, especially helpful for new or non-technical members who feel intimidated by governance tooling. We’re aiming to boost participation and understanding, not alter core mechanics.

We’re open to integrating directly with Snapshot or any governance layer via APIs or plugins, allowing a seamless bridge between simulated and real proposals.

Thanks again!

Hi @Money ,

I hope you’re doing well. I wanted to kindly follow up on our last conversation regarding BallotDAO. It’s been about 13 days, so I just wanted to check in to see if there are any updates or next steps I should be aware of.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Warm regards,
