DAO Community Discord Server

Hello SandFam.

I don’t know how much it will interest you, but an idea came to my mind.

I want to create a Discord Server for the Sandbox DAO community. It’s nice to write on a forum, but in today’s world everyone is on mobile devices and communication on mobile devices is more effective. With an independent Discord Server, I think a more active community can be created.

Purpose of the Server:

  • Increasing the communication of the DAO Community.
  • SIP reviews and DAO related tutorials
  • Help for people who want to create a SIP.
  • Events, Surveys,
  • Lots of conversation and discussion.

Who will manage the server? What will be in its content.

  • In the server I will create, I will not interfere with the management and use of the server except for the arrangements that only the server owner should make. No one from TSB management and DAO management will be in server management.

  • 11 Administrators will be selected for the server. These admins will be decided by the community. The community can change an admin they are not satisfied with by re-election.

  • On the DAO side, 2-3 people will be made administrators with limited access. these people will give Events and Trainings related to DAO. Trainings will be over Discord.

  • 5 people will be selected, whom the community trusts for impartial review judgment. These people will give their opinions and reasons about SIPs. Thus, the community will be able to learn SIP content faster.

  • Anyone who wants to create a SIP and before presenting a prepared idea as a SIP can get private opinion or help from 5 competent people. If he/she wants, he/she can present it directly to the community.

  • The community will decide whether to open or close all channels other than certain channels in the server content (DAO training, DAO event, etc…will be fixed))

  • For active SIPs, a poll will be organized where everyone has 1 vote.

These are some of the ideas that come to my mind. I believe that the DAO community will be more intertwined and communicative in this way.

We discussed this idea with @theKuntaMC a bit on Twitter. He likes the idea of a community self-governed DAO server and is supporting.

I am waiting for dao community ideas.

Budget: 0 USD/SAND

Vote Me Please

  • Yes. That’s a good idea.
  • No. it is unnecessary.

When I interviewed the team from Bankless DAO, one of the things they identified that hurt their unity was creating separate discords for their different subgroups. At the time it was a great idea to manage their size by silo’ing themselves, but that communication separation created an actual separation, and that actual separation disrupted their unity.

I see the same right now for us. If we separate the DAO community from the game community and builder community, then I see us creating an actual separation that could easily take away from our cohesion as one SandFam.

  1. #dao-discussion isn’t being used enough for me to say we should have our own discord
  2. A new discord becomes one more thing SandFam has to manage and keep up with. I’ve managed discords before, they’re a lot of work that requires active management to moderate properly
  3. We take away one of the few organic connections that the DAO and TSB have right now, which is a shared discord
  4. We lose out on discoverability of SandFam in the TSB Discord happening across #dao-discussion and wondering…“What’s that?”

I am looking forward to seeing discussion around this topic!

If the community supports this, the DAO Admin Team does, too.

Great job inserting a poll directly into the post.

Thanks, @Lanzer, for your insights above.

Others are invited to, please, CHIME IN!

The idea doesn’t seem bad, but if this happens will Sandbox DAO be cancelled and decisions will come from the DAO Discord?

At the first glance it looks a good idea and I still have to get used to this forum UI that I am not really fond of it but I appreciated here is the slower pace and the fact that people maybe are a bit more reflective before posting. I agree that this is playing maybe a certain number of engagement but on the other side the quality is maybe better? That is my impression.
I remember as well that @theKuntaMC mentionned once as well the better possibility to keep track of topics in a better way.
Of course we can maybe decide to split the topics eg SIP discussion, SIP proposals and active SIP on forum and other topics on discord but like Lanzer said this will multiply the channels to be followed. Maybe I am too old fashion but I prefer the forum. :disguised_face:

What would the value-add be above a section in the Sandbox discord? Just cleaner organization?

No, the Forum would remain the primary home for governance discussion

I believe it require MUCH larger community consensus (probably a SIP) to shut down the Forum to replace with Discord

I would love to hear other reasons, but it seems the strongest viable reason is the organization of information… and the fact it is a platform more people are familiar with

It will certainly be extra work for me, lol

But whatever people want, we’ll do, :100:

Engagement would hopefully improve (over time) on Discord if it is more accessible to more people.

But we would also risk splitting conversations, the result of which would be people are only half-informed, based upon what they heard on one of two platforms (Discord vs Forum).

@Lanzer

I don’t agree with that because Sandfam has already left. The builders are trying to manage their own communities on their own discord servers. Builders are almost not active on the Sandbox Discord, except for certain people talking for help.

We are also not separating the community. We can’t separate it anyway. The people who vote in the DAO are the same people who build things in the Sandbox.

I can understand the danger you mentioned in the Bankless DAO example. But the purpose of the Server is to inform people about DAO and make them a member of the DAO community. Even if 1 person is gained, he will now be a potential investor, builder, player or Land Owner. It will actually help TSB to grow.

If the community decides to do this, I don’t think there will be a problem with Discord management. Many people already manage their own discord servers.

Why should it be separate from the Sandbox Discord?

It’s obvious that we can’t do anything we want on the Sandbox Discord server.

Example - 1
For example, if we want to open DAO or community channels, we can probably open a few of them in 1-2 years. (It took us more than 6 months to open Game Maker and Vox edit channels for the Turkish community)

Example - 2
There is no channel on the Sandbox discord for DAO Delegates. We are on a separate Discord server :slight_smile:

@KCL @cryptodiplo

You’re not old-fashioned. I absolutely agree with you that there are many places to follow now.

I am a Builder - Ambassador and Delegate only for TSB;
Twitter - Forum (TSB - DAO) - Discord (many builder discord, TSB discord etc.) - Telegram - I follow the website. Isn’t it already a lot?

If @KamiSawZe idea of creating a UGC platform is approved, it will be added on that platform.

(-which I think should be approved) TSB has no idea for UGCs within the site for this year. People are trying to organize events and find events on social media).

There should be a single active point where the community can be active all the time, where people can find and read reviews about SIPs, get help and discuss, organize events.

For example @Lanzer could organize live chats with DAO admins. They can do live reviews of SIPs. They can organize trainings. If the DAO team approves, polls can be created in advance for the SIPs to be voted on (where everyone has equal voting rights :))

I find the forum structure cumbersome. Today there are more people talking on mobile chat applications than people talking on the forum. because it is more effective. More people participate.

The number of participants in the forum threads already confirms this.

@nmyl No. The aim is to work in partnership with the DAO. To enable people to prepare more accurate SIPs to be opened. To provide DAO trainings. To have some fun.

@theKuntaMC

I think it’s something that will make your job easier rather than being extra work for you, because you will be able to follow more interactions and information from a single point.

In addition, thanks to the trainings you will provide and information such as How should I prepare a SIP? people will learn what is important at the idea stage and how it should be prepared.
