- Project Overview
This project proposes the launch of an onboarding and educational initiative tailored specifically for the people of Benue State, Nigeria — a region currently underrepresented in the Web3 and metaverse ecosystems. Despite the rapid global growth of decentralized platforms, many in Benue remain unaware or unable to access the tools and opportunities within The Sandbox.
Our goal is to create an inclusive, beginner-friendly onboarding program that introduces participants to The Sandbox platform, its utilities, and how to engage as creators, gamers, or entrepreneurs using SAND. The program will include localized workshops (physical and virtual), multilingual video tutorials, and a dedicated onboarding portal with simplified guides.
The target audience includes students, creatives, digital entrepreneurs, and young professionals in Benue State. By creating awareness and lowering the barrier to entry, we aim to onboard at least 500 active users within the first 3 months.
- Problem Identification
Despite Nigeria’s growing interest in Web3, regions like Benue State are lagging behind due to lack of awareness, technical onboarding resources, and educational content. Informal surveys in higher institutions and community centers show that less than 5% have heard of The Sandbox, and fewer than 1% have interacted with any metaverse tools.
There’s also a language and content accessibility gap—most existing tutorials are not localized or contextualized, making them difficult for complete beginners to grasp.
This proposal addresses the lack of structured onboarding programs and culturally-tailored educational material for The Sandbox in underrepresented regions.
- Solution Approach
We will develop a lean but effective onboarding program that includes:
Monthly in-person workshops in Makurdi and one other city
A 2-week online crash course with recorded lessons and live sessions
Basic localized video tutorials in Pidgin and English (3–5 core videos)
Telegram support community
Incentives such as badges and recognition for active participants
This approach maximizes value while staying within budget, using strategic partnerships with local institutions, free community centers for venues, and low-cost digital production tools. It focuses on grassroots engagement and practical, bite-sized learning.
- Impact Measurement
To measure success, we will track:
Number of new wallets created and connected to The Sandbox (target: 300–500)
Completion rate of online crash course (target: 60%)
Engagement within Telegram group (target: 500+ members)
Feedback from participants via surveys and interviews
Number of tutorial video views and shares within local communities

- Team Qualifications
Project Lead: Web3 educator and community builder with proven experience in hosting blockchain awareness campaigns and workshops in Nigeria.
Content Creator: An instructional designer with knowledge in curriculum design, e-learning platforms, and video production.
Community Moderator: Experienced in running crypto-focused Telegram groups with strong engagement strategies.
Tech Support: Developer with experience in onboarding users to Web3 platforms and setting up support channels.
Though we are new to The Sandbox ecosystem directly, our background in digital education and crypto onboarding uniquely positions us to carry this out effectively.
- Budget Allocation and Sustainability
Total Grant Request: $3,000 USD
Breakdown:
Video content creation (scripting, recording, editing): $500
Workshop logistics (venue, materials, refreshments): $1,200
Facilitator and moderator stipends: $600
Platform/tools (Zoom access, Telegram setup, data support): $300
Participant engagement and community incentives: $200
Contingency/emergency costs: $200
Sustainability Plan:
We will maintain the video content and onboarding portal as free resources. The Telegram community will continue growing organically, and future workshops will be self-funded or supported by partnerships with local educational and youth organizations. The momentum from the pilot will also help us replicate the project in other underserved regions.
