Sandbox kenya onboarding creator bootcamp

1. Project Overview
This project seeks to onboard and empower a new wave of Kenyan creators, students, and developers into The Sandbox metaverse through a structured, 6-week virtual bootcamp. Our goal is to provide accessible, beginner-friendly education around Game Maker, VoxEdit, NFTs, LAND ownership, and the broader Sandbox creator economy. Through live workshops, Q&A sessions, and practical assignments, we will train at least 30 participants to actively participate in Sandbox as builders, designers, and digital entrepreneurs.

Hosted by an experienced team of Web3 educators and 3D creators, this program will be conducted via Zoom, Discord, and Twitter Spaces, ensuring inclusive, hybrid access. Top-performing participants will receive Sandbox-branded NFTs and tokens to encourage long-term engagement

2. Problem Identification

While Kenya has a fast-growing Web3 user base, there’s currently a major gap in education and onboarding for metaverse platforms, particularly Sandbox. Local students, digital artists, and game enthusiasts lack structured access to learning Sandbox-specific tools like VoxEdit and Game Maker, preventing them from participating in or earning from one of the fastest-growing digital economies. Without targeted support, The Sandbox risks missing out on a vibrant creative community eager to join but lacking guidance, exposure, and incentives.

3. Solution Approach

Our solution is to host an six-week digital bootcamp to educate and onboard Kenyan creators into The Sandbox ecosystem. The program will include:

  • 6 live workshops (hosted on Zoom and Twitter Spaces)
  • Hands-on sessions using VoxEdit and Game Maker
  • Tutorials on how to mint assets as NFTs and list them on Sandbox Marketplace
  • Educational content on LAND, monetization, and governance in The Sandbox
  • Incentivized participation through NFTs, SAND tokens, and certification
  • A final “Creator Showcase” where participants demo what they’ve built

The bootcamp will use a community-first approach, powered by Discord and Telegram groups, and ensure sustainability by creating reusable learning content and mentorship pathways.

4. Impact Measurement

The success of this program will be measured through the following key performance indicators (KPIs):

  • 30+ participants onboarded into The Sandbox Discord and platform
  • 6 sessions conducted with 70% average attendance rate
  • 6+ asset submissions using VoxEdit or Game Maker
  • 3+ NFT uploads to Sandbox Marketplace or mock demos
  • Post-bootcamp survey with a 75% satisfaction rate
  • 3 standout projects featured during a live final showcase

We will also track community growth, project continuity, and engagement via Discord and social media

5. Technical Implementation & Timeline

Milestone 1 – Content & Launch Setup (Week 1-2)

Thank you for your application for this domain. I want to start by letting you know that this domain has a small budget for grants and your current ask is beyond the available amount. The Education , Onboarding and Tech small grants offer up to $750 in funding for worthy projects that pass the application process and complete finalizing requirements.

A note specifically on this application: Please take time to be thorough and accurate with your information and ask.
You’ve requested two different amounts on this application ($3000 & $4000).

Thank you for your interest. You are welcome to resubmit should you feel you can provide value to the Sandbox DAO within the budget available.

Hello Money,

Thank you for your feedback and for the opportunity to resubmit my grant application.

I realize the Education, Onboarding, and Tech small grants are currently capped at $750. However, after reviewing the scope of my proposed project, I believe that a budget of $1,550 would more fully support its impact and sustainability.

I’d like to kindly ask whether there is any flexibility to accommodate a proposal of this scale.

I’m more than happy to adjust and reframe the proposal to meet the current requirements if needed. I appreciate your time and guidance in helping determine the best path forward.

BELOW IS A REVISED RESUBMISSION

Thanks for resubmitting.

A couple questions for you as I review the application:
Can you share more about your experience with The Sandbox game development, Voxel Editing, etc? Examples would be great.

You’ve mentioned providing “certification” as a component. What standard of certification are you offering within this program?

Thanks for your follow up.

Hello Money, Sorry for the late reply here’s the response

Experience with sandbox

While we do not yet have direct experience with The Sandbox’s VoxEdit or Game Maker tools, our team brings strong foundational skills in related areas such as game development, digital art, and community education. We are currently undergoing structured onboarding to The Sandbox’s creator tools and plan to complete official tutorials and sandbox-verified workflows before launching the bootcamp.

Our Bootcamp is designed with a “learn-by-doing” approach, and we are already in the process of assembling a dedicated team of creators and trainers who will:

  • Complete the VoxEdit and Game Maker learning paths from The Sandbox Academy.
  • Produce initial voxel assets and sample games during our pre-bootcamp phase.
  • Partner with experienced creators (if possible) for guest sessions or mentorship.

This program is as much about building local capacity as it is about final outputs. By empowering first-time creators in Kenya to learn The Sandbox ecosystem alongside us, we aim to create a sustainable pathway for talent development in the metaverse space.

30-day learning plan like:

Week 1: Team completes Sandbox Academy modules on VoxEdit and Game Maker

Week 2: Internal asset creation sprint — each member builds one asset

Week 3: Sandbox environment prototype created using Game Maker

Week 4: Upload portfolio to Notion/GitHub + internal testing

Pre-Bootcamp Creator Training Plan (30 Days)

To ensure our team delivers high-quality training and support for participants, we have developed a focused 30-day onboarding plan for The Sandbox tools. While we do not yet have direct experience with VoxEdit or Game Maker, we are actively engaging with The Sandbox Academy resources and applying a structured, peer-learning model to upskill ourselves and prepare learning assets for the bootcamp.

Week 1:Foundation & Tool Familiarization

  • Complete beginner tutorials on VoxEdit and Game Maker via The Sandbox Academy
  • Internal live sessions for tool walkthroughs and sandbox interface exploration
  • Establish asset guidelines for consistency across creators

Week 2: Asset Creation Sprint

  • Each team member creates and documents 1–2 simple assets (e.g., wearable, prop, character)
  • Internal peer review to evaluate voxel art quality, naming conventions, and export readiness
  • Begin drafting documentation for participants based on our learning experience

Week 3: Game World Prototype

  • Use Sandbox Game Maker to design a basic playable experience (e.g., quest collection or obstacle course)
  • Assign components and logic to assets (NPC behavior, quests, triggers)
  • Capture screenshots and a video walkthrough for demo purposes

Week 4: Portfolio Publishing & Feedback

  • Publish a public Notion or GitHub portfolio of assets and sandbox scenes
  • Host a private internal showcase for community partners or mentors
  • Incorporate feedback and finalize sample content to be used during the bootcamp

Outcomes of the 30-Day Prep

  • Team portfolio of 4–6 voxel assets
  • 1 playable Sandbox demo experience
  • Onboarding curriculum adapted from team learning
  • Public documentation hub for learners

2.Certification Standards Offered

We offer a non-accredited but industry-relevant Certificate of Completion for participants who successfully complete the full bootcamp. This includes:

  • Active participation in the training modules (Voxel Art, Game Design, and Asset Publishing)
  • Submission of a final playable experience built in The Sandbox Game Maker
  • Attendance in peer feedback sessions and project showcases

Each participant will receive a verifiable digital certificate issued by our organization. In addition, we may award specialized micro-credentials or badges (e.g., “Voxel Artist – Level 1” or “Game Maker Explorer”) to recognize outstanding engagement or skill in specific areas. This certification helps creators demonstrate their proficiency and contributes to building a credible portfolio they can present for future opportunities in Web3, gaming, or digital design.

Thank you for your follow-up. Your application is now under review.
