Thank you for taking the time to read this. Our team was recently awarded a Grant by TSB DAO to finish our Experience and we are oh so close. We have now made it to the Beta Testing phase and would love if anyone would enjoy play our game and emailing us with your feedback.
Stillwater: Quest for the Hel Oxbar brings you back to your village with plans for a new mighty weapon, the Hel Oxbar. You must gather all the resources necessary to build the axe by navigating through mines, lava caves and a mountain. After completing the axe, the Hel Oxbar will unlock 2 bonus time trials for you to train with the axe
Thank you ahead of time and please email us at playing@thefieldofdreamz.com with any feedback you may have about the gameā¦who knows, there might be a sweet Viking themed NFT in it for you
Hey @batmann - can you get this in front of some other ambassadors?! maybe spread the word in your community of players and summarize their feedback for Chris here?
Maybe you wanna give some feedback, too, @KamiSawZe?
Just by looking at the screenshot I think it feels a bit flat right now, you could give more depth to the background and foreground elements (platforms, obstacles, etc.) could use more visual clarity to help with navigation. A bit of polish there would really elevate the experience. Looking forward to seeing how it evolves!
Thank you! This one of the levels in a cave, while the main experience has some good depth with background characters and assets. Once you play, if it still seems āstuffyā let me know.
I hadnāt received any feedback via email and recently had email problems, so if anyone sent me feedback via email, could you please resend. Thanks so much to @KamiSawZe for your generous feedback!!!
My apologies, itās been one thing after the other and Iāve been struggling to find enough time for everything. Do you think it would be possible for us to knock this out over the weekend pending any other technical issues? Iād like to get you paid for the final milestones. I will make sure to reply ASAP on any questions.
Unfortunately in my latest test I didnāt get very far. When I try to go into the longhouse at the very start, it always teleports me into the mines. Iām guessing itās a narrow collision issue caused by a recent patch. What other builders have found to do is widen the collision area around the spawn. See if you can get a minimum of a two meter wide area to make sure the player has enough space to arrive.
It shouldnāt be, Iām using a normal sized avatar. But let me try with a small one like Smurfs.
To try to fix the avatar issue, try placing a new spawn plate asset, do not duplicate the old one. Add the avatar spawner behavior to the newly placed asset and delete the old one. Then try setting up any settings you needed on the spawner, but donāt touch the module down where health is that adjusts the speed settings. It seems itās all okay until you click it - then all the speeds are messed up. See if you can do the long jumps needed for the premium challenge with the new spawner.
I made a video showing the issue Iām encountering even with the smallest type of avatar. I think if we can get that fixed, then youāll be all set for the last payment. I noted a couple issues I encountered with the premium zones, and showed how I think you can fix one of them and the custom avatar issue. Hope it isnāt too long winded. A short checklist:
(didnāt mention this really on the video, but you can close up the testing zone and use the new free camera and avatar teleport testing features to warp into it while itās locked away from players)
switch back to custom avatar using the instructions at the end of the video and see if movement is okay. This MIGHT fix the teleport issues Iām seeing in game client as well, but if not, see point #4. Most importantly, it prevents players from equipping high powered health and damage items which will let them one-hit breakable items and survive going through lava.
recommend switching back to Legacy movement palette, being able to climb the edges of objects will make your level design very exploitable.
widen collision on arrival points from teleporters to make sure players land at the right location, this might not be noticeable in Game Maker testing, but in the Game Client I canāt get to the blacksmith after the longhouse.
fix collision on crates in time trial so players canāt jump from them to the platforms (unless you want that to be an optional path).
rocks in lava by platforms in time trial allows an out of bounds escape.
destroying the next obstacle in the time trial appears to destroy the platforms, locking players from that path if they need to respawn before the lava. Might also be destroying the objects in the next trial because it was only trophies on the ground when I tried it.
Rad! Thanks @KamiSawZe ! I didnāt have access to the video, but I made all the updates as suggested in your notes (I requested access).
I am really hoping the Custom Avatar solves the transporting issues and I had some messaging issues in the Training Gauntlet that was causing everything to die.
Iām still encountering some teleport issues in the game client. Movement is fixed and working well, and I was able to get through the two challenges with no bugs. But leaving Valhalla Iām teleported to the top of the mountain above the entrance - easy enough to jump back in the right area, but I can also land in out of bounds areas. Then the mine path after the first crouch spot I get sent to the mountains by some sheep, then had some really weird jumps to various other parts of the game. /respawn brought me back to the starting spawn, but now the door to the mines is no longer active so I end up stuck.
Ugh. Never had these issues before, must be something with 0.12 that is causing it. When trying to spawn in a room with a short ceiling it defaults to directly above it.
Okay so I realized that testing through Game Maker is different than testing through TSB website. Transporting works differently. Soooo, I altered the Mine Cave to be 2 blocks wide instead of 1 and I tested it online and all the transporting worked. I certainly hope this will be your last testing @KamiSawZe .
Iām good up until I try to take the tent to the hidden passage after the mountain. I end up on the wrong side of an invisible wall, I think in the mines.
Okay, same issue there. I updated that and was able to play the game all the way through!!!
One big thing though: I canāt seem to get the NFT Sensor to work correctly. I changed the NFT Asset to something that I donāt have, but it still seems to approve it. The failure UI isnāt showing. I changed it to a Statue of Liberty NFT if you wouldnāt mind checking on your end.
