SIP-5: Supporting Red Cross for 2024(with Yobike)

Council recommendation: Positive :slightly_smiling_face:

TLDR

What

To offer a prizepool of 200k SAND to the The Sandbox community in 2024 in order to relaunch a charity event for the French Red Cross, with the aim of selling NFTs and raising awareness of the association’s commitments.

Why

Our aim is to sell at least 400k SAND of NFT in 2024 (more than 80k SAND already sold) via 5 media drops and to position TSB as the Red Cross’ preferred Web3 partner.

How

We will be setting up a team to publicize 5 events throughout 2024:

  1. January 2024: 1st NFT Drop. 1000 NFT at 80 SAND each during the “Season Greetings” event (sold out)
  2. April 2024: 2nd NFT Drop. 1000 NFT at 80 SAND each proposed during Paris Blockchain Week
  3. Summer 2024: 3rd NFT Drop. 1000 NFT at 80 SAND each proposed during a dedicated Event
  4. Autumn 2024: 4th NFT Drop. 1000 NFT at 80 SAND each proposed during a dedicated Event
  5. Winter 2024: 5th NFT Drop. 1000 NFT at 80 SAND each proposed a dedicated Event

The last three drops will be boosted by a global Prizepool of 200k SAND for the community contributed via The Sandbox DAO. Each NFT is also a Pass giving access to a Land made up of 14 quests.

At the end of the year, depending on the number of NFTs in the collection, players will be awarded Sand bonuses, NFTs, a Hall of Fame, and other bonuses that are still a secret…

When

3 new NFT-drops during 2024:

  • 1st NFT-drop in summer 2024
  • 2nd NFT-drop in autumn 2024
  • 3rd NFT-drop at the end of 2024

Who

The French Red Cross is in charge of this project, with some 70,000 volunteers in the field working with populations in difficulty.

In addition to our in-house team, which determines the objectives of this project, we are working with a partner who is developing our experiment in The Sandbox metaverse: Studio Yobiké.

This studio has been making PC and VR games for almost 6 years, and specializes in metaverse experiences. They are in charge of the development and evolution of the 3 Lands we currently have on The Sandbox, with a dedicated team :

  • A marketing director
  • A producer
  • A level designer
  • A game artist

SIP Details

Background/Context

Our aim is to raise more than 400k SAND over a year for the Red Cross, through the sale of NFTs, to help the organization carry out projects for populations in need, and to show that the Web3 community is generous and involved in social issues.

After a successful first stage in January 2024, and one underway at the moment, we are going to organize 3 events around the French Red Cross in The Sandbox and we aim to sell 3,000 NFTs at 80 SAND by the end of the year.

To achieve this, we need to mobilize The Sandbox community to promote future events, find partners to give visibility to the project, offer advantages to the community, and finally, have the financial support of the DAO through the provision of a 200k SAND Prizepool for players.

Description

Around three events (summer, autumn and winter), we’re going to bring the community to life by updating our three experiences dedicated to the French Red Cross (one of which is only accessible via NFT Pass), we’re going to launch 3 drops of 1,000 NFT in order to finalize the collection of 5 NFTs (first aid kit, money box, waistcoat, etc.) and find partners to make these events visible and offer bonuses to NFT owners.

Those who buy NFTs will get rewards via the dedicated Prizepool, win goodies from partners (NFTs, etc.) and the more complete the NFT collection, the greater the benefits.

All players will still be able to visit our three experiences:

  • The Social Hub, where you can find out more about the Red Cross and volunteer work.
  • The flood map, where you can find yourself in the shoes of a volunteer and have to take action in a real-life situation.
  • The marauding map, only accessible with an NFT Pass, which allows you to discover another facet of the volunteer role, much more focused on listening and caring.

Three Events with a prizepool of 40,000 SAND each (120,000 SAND):

During the 3 events of the year an NFT Drop will take place, all NFT owners of the event will participate in a prizepool of 40,000 SAND and will win partner bonuses

A 40,000 SAND bonus prizepool for owners of 3 or more different NFTs

In December, at the same time as the last event, an additional prizepool of 40,000 SAND will be shared among all owners of more than 3 NFTs in the collection, as well as NFT Bonuses and partner benefits.

A 40,000 SAND bonus prizepool for owners of all 5 NFTs

A final prizepool of 40,000 SAND for all owners of the 5 NFTs and rare benefits, as well as their name in a Hall of Fame within the experience.

Total : 200 000 SAND for The Sandbox community

Rationale and benefit

We’ve noticed and really appreciated the community’s enthusiasm for the first event and the commitment to charity shown by the French Red Cross.

We’ve therefore decided to continue this collaboration between the French Red Cross and The Sandbox to enable new humanitarian projects to be carried out thanks to the generosity and commitment of the community.

If the next three collections sell out, more than 600,000 SAND will have been raised over the year (400,000 SAND via the 5 Drops and around 200,000 SAND in direct donations from The Sandbox). What a proud achievement!

Risk analysis

We want to be at the very beginning of the DAO to show the importance of the community and the strength of The Sandbox members’ involvement in humanitarian projects. It’s exciting to be part of such a project, but it’s also a risk to want to be at the beginning of something new.

Furthermore, this project is intended to be generous and altruistic, and we would like to avoid any speculation on the NFTs sold as much as possible.

We are not including the cost of Catalysts in this request, as this should be covered by NFT’s buyers in the future, but if this is not the case, the cost of Catalysts should be added to this request.

Implementation Plan

3 NFT-drop between May and December 2024 with adaptation of experiments already carried out, search for partners and coordination:

  • 1st NFT-drop during May/June 2024
  • 2nd NFT-drop during September 2024
  • 3rd NFT-drop during December 2024

Resources required.

To summarize:
We need 200,000 SAND to offer multiple Prizepools to the community, which explains our submission to the DAO (and the cost of 3,000 “Common” Catalyst if it’s needed).

For our part, we’ll be in charge of modifying and improving existing experiences, finding partners, creating NFTs and running events throughout the year.

Metrics for Success

The main metrics will be:

  • NFT sales (Sold Out target)
  • Number of visits on our experiences
  • Time spent on experiences
  • Number of comment on social networks

Voting Options

  • Voting Options: Clearly state the options members can vote for (e.g., Yes, No, Abstain).
  • Voting Period: 14 days

Love the concept of giving back to the Red Cross but why is this proposal launched in conjunction with the approval of our budget?

Shouldn’t the budget SIP be first approved?

Everyone knows I am all for anything that supports Charity projects. I still have to read more up on this one but I had a lot of issues with the first stage.

Biggest issues were we gave away more in rewards than were brought in, donating that would have given more to FRC. And we didn’t limit the sale of those items so a select few individuals bought every single one then sold them for much higher prices so they could profit off of a non-profit. The ones they didn’t sell they “gave to friends” (or sold for 1-3 SAND) and those “friends” were brand new accounts which later received the rewards.

I still need to read more on it, but I hope those issues were taken into account.

GM,

Wouldn’t there be more benefit, for the Red Cross, if there were 10,000 NFTs but at 8 SAND than 1,000 NFTs at 80 SAND?

It is almost the price of an Avatar, and they are not often sold-out.

Like other comments I read, it is too early for me to vote proposal with budget, as this same budget is not yet voted…

Doing charity is a good thing. I am, like many of us, part of many charity NFT projects.

Despite that I am AGAINST the proposal.

  • The Red Cross Event was to many frustrating and had a negative impact with many players. It excluded all players who did not have a certain NFT DESPITE stating “open to all”.

  • There are many other great charitable organisations. Why not make it a DAO proposal to VOTE on which organisation we want to spend how much? This should be the way in a DAO!

  • Is it necessary to install spending for charity as a first or 5th step after breaking ground to a new DAO?

Well I my view an exemplary democratic process for the charitable work of the DAO would be a great start for it. And that in a step by step process, starting with a process of setting up conditions for charitable organisations/projects to fullfill to be eligible for a charity amount. Than, asking members for organisations proposals, even with the goel of bringing in more organisations into the crypto space, showing the posibilities of The Sandbox.

I say NO to that proposal.

As much as I want TSB to be supporting charity, I’ll also be voting no unless some concerns are addressed:

  1. As others stated, the pass system was not an effective means of raising money for the charity before as people used it to make money for themselves with rewards. Other games like Call of Duty simply have fun equipment packs for players to buy with all proceeds going to the charity. People should want to buy for the thing they are getting and to support the charity, not for earning a reward pool. This attracts greedy people who will try to game the system in their favor.
  2. If a pass is used for the game, secondary sales need to be disabled during the event, or one pass per person limit established effectively. Having a small group of users being able to buy out all the passes and sell on secondary is like war profiteering. This is against the heart of charitable acts, discouraging to legitimate players and those wishing to support the cause.
  3. The moderation team needs to be ON TOP of counterfeit item minting, especially if points 1 and 2 are not addressed. Several copycat items were minted to match the pass and sold on secondary to unsuspecting buyers who were unable to play the game with the fake pass. As the person who was formerly in charge of asset moderation, I did my best to keep up with these issues, but I was only able to be reactive to the situation. The moderation tools and team need to make sure players are not defrauded by participating in a charity event.
  4. Summer is already almost here. This event needs to be almost complete in development already if it’s going to launch in the next few weeks to be a “summer event”. How close is that to actually happening?

Not opposed to the idea of this. Red Cross was a fun event to partake in, and this partnership could really benefit Sandbox over time.

I am all for charity, but for transparency reasons, it would be good to note how much (if any) the Red Cross /Yobike received in the first round. We know they sold around 80K in Jan 2024 so it would be easy to calculate ROI if we get that info.

If they sell less than 200K in assets, it would be better to just donate Sand directly to Red Cross

It would be wise to have a backup plan in case not all 1000 NFTs in each of 5 drops are sold. Are they going for sale at a discounted price or something else in order to get more money for the Red Cross or is it just going to stay on the chain?

Is the studio working on new or updated games or are they expecting players to buy NFTs in order to play the same games they did in Jan this year over and over? They would need new content for each NFT drop in order to keep players interested.

Is TSB giving away 5K CATs to mint those NFT drops or does the studio need to buy all those CATs on secondary? If its a donation, it should be stated here.

Hard NO for me. I am wondering who were voting YES on these TSB weakly-related proposals.
Again, TSB needs to be strong enough to support others. Right now, TSB is dying. So TSB needs this money more than anyone else does.

Strong “No” from me. Red Cross showed it’s completely worthlessness, uselessness and incompetence in russian agression in Ukraine. They absolutely DID NOTHING of what it’s organisation was created for. I don’t want it to be present in my info space and be mentioned at all.

Strong no from me too, all in to donate to charity but the previous experience was not playable, made comfusions and was hectic.

:rotating_light: SIP Update: NFT Event Starts Today! :rotating_light:

Starting today, you can be part of the initiative to support the French Red Cross by purchasing one of the exclusive Red Cross Quad NFTs for 80 SAND.

:money_with_wings: The prize pool reward is 40,000 SAND for NFT owners!

Join the Red Cross in making an impact. Don’t miss out! :star2:
