SIP Proposal - The Sandbox Ibero-American Publishing Program

What is The Sandbox Publishing Program?

The Sandbox Publishing Program it’s a mentoring program with the objective of incorporating new experiences to Sandbox through a new generation of devs.

Students and new developers of all ibero-america would be able to join the program in order to have a first gamedev experience, enhancing the community growth and the player base of The Sandbox.

Why?

In Ibero-america, there is a a large number of developers aiming to enter the video game industry, with an estimate of +100k students looking to have their first development experience.

This large and vacant workforce, added to an expanding market, a thriving gig economy and a large, young population with a high engagement in digital activities, consolidates the region as an opportunity for expanding business.

Through the program, The Sandbox will have a constant flow of new content, raise awareness for the platform, reach-out to the next generation of gaming devs and generate new players and creators.

It constitutes not only a way to enhance the reach and awareness of the platform in terms of publicity but also in terms of content: the plan includes the creation of 50 newly launched experiences.

How

We are Widow Games, a videogame company with more than 12 years of experience in the market. We have already launched a similar project for other platforms like Fortnite, with more than 20 experiences already published and +20 Universities & NGOs that joined the program.

The Sandbox Publishing Program SIP proposes allocating up to 100000 USD to cover the development costs, divided by 5 milestones in which new students will join to develop new experiences for The Sandbox.

Our team will be in charge of reaching out to universities of all the region to scout new students to join the program. We will also provide a dedicated team to mentor and follow up on the development of the projects, ensuring a professional and industry-standard result for the experiences.

SIP Details

It’s an online educational and mentoring program where Game Developers Students will have the chance to enter the gaming industry, using THE SANDBOX ecosystem as base.
With the mentorship of the Widow Games team, students will have the chance to develop their first published game within The Sandbox, adding verifiable work experiences to their CVs.

Every 3 months, a new group of students will join the program. With the Widow Game team support and mentoring, they will develop experiences within The Sandbox, with an estimated development time of up to 3 months. Team Background

We are Widow Games, a video game studio with more than 12 years of experience in the market. We have an extensive catalog of mobile games and we have also developed our own IP’s like Geopoly, a mobile geolocation economic simulator that combines web2 and web3 technology.

We are confident in the proposal since we have already developed a similar program to publish games created by students in UEFN Fortnite, which has been a great success, with more than 20 maps published including some works made for brands such as MTV.

Hi Widow Games! Welcome to the Sandbox Community.

Are you primarily focusing on Ibero-Americans in America? Elsewhere?

Your website looks really good! I noticed where it said “we developed more than 15 mobile games”. Have you developed games outside of mobile?

Great idea!

The budget is way too high unfortunately.

I am always open to smaller grants for projects like these but $100k is going to be too much. The amount I would vote yes for, for a first time attempt at a program like this would be something more in the $10-20k ballpark (assuming all due diligence goes well). I also understand that yours is more ambitious with a longer timeframe and more experiences created, but I need to see results before guaranteeing a budget like this.

You should check out this SIP for a Sandbox academy that was passed successfully for ideas, their budget was $15k: https://snapshot.box/#/s:sandboxdao.eth/proposal/0x737a8728c6b8479c75e934e44f7552a385c719d214c967375c4229c6aa740f89

Hello WidowGames, welcome to the DAO!

Unfortunately, I think your budget is too high. My main concern is that there’s no ROI for the investment. I agree with Cryptodiplo on this, and I’d like to add that we have the Builders Challenge 2, as well as the upcoming BC3, that are designed to bring in developers and games.

Hello All,

Along the same lines here budget is way too high. I would expect that you compare yourself vs what has been done by @markbagogames for TSB academy and explaining how you differentiate yourself or complement the offer.
You are also saying that you have in a successful similar program developped 20 exp on Fortnite. What makes you think that you can reach here 50 exp publication while the base numbers of players and public reach is lower for TSB vs Fortnite. 30 kUSD marketing for scouting student is prohibitive.

PS: for my DAO folks if we plan to expand our support to those kind of programs accross the globe we should brand it the same way even if the company running those mentoring/academies are different.

The budget is too high for an online program. A clearer breakdown or scaled-down approach would make it more reasonable.
