Game Maker comes with a lot of bugs with each new release. The release of new versions and the organization of events immediately afterwards puts Creators in a difficult situation. The situation is not very different for players. Because all the experiences they enter are broken. The comments in the experiences started to be just this experience is broken.
My personal opinion is that such changes should not be released until they are fully tested and at least 90% working, and for major changes to be made, the community should be consulted and tested in detail and feedback should be taken.
Especially the new physics engine broke a lot of mechanics. naturally it killed a lot of game genres. Not to mention the avatar control dominance. It is not a very enjoyable situation to play a game by drifting.
Aside from updating recent experiences, trying to update other Published experiences can sometimes be more difficult than redoing the experience. mechanics and playability that have been working for a long time are broken / changed, User habits are ignored from time to time.
The reason why I opened this thread is to make our voices clearer to the development team and to convey our requests collectively. Because such changes alienate the Players as well as the creators from the system.
Yes, we’re in Alpha. Yes, there may be bugs. But we don’t put a car in the showroom with 3 tires and part of the engine not working before putting it on sale, right? The person who uses it doesn’t say that this is just a prototype and as it develops in the future, the tire will be fixed and the engine will be fixed.
I would like all creators and players to contribute to this thread.
This is a difficult one, and personally I don’t think we should be marking large changes to this process right now.
I agree that there is very little time between the announcement of the new GM and the start of BC 3.
Currently I feel the updates we got and the way GM 11 was rolled out went well. Dev logs are good and contain lots of info.
It does seem that there were people preparing for this BC before the launch - was a heads up given to internal members ?
On the other hand the short period does have its benefits.
I think we should look back after the BC and discus improvements then as this is too late to change IMO
Yeah like I mentioned in another thread, right before Alpha Season 4 started, they released a GM patch that broke Floor Droppers, and it went the entire season without getting fixed so it made for a bad experience. Floor Droppers was only about 6 months old at that point.
It makes it difficult to continue participating in the cutting edge of TSB development when I have to spend money to go back and fix stuff all the time. Tough situation either way. I’m not sure what pressures the product team is under though, maybe their need to release new content outweighs the need for quality testing beforehand.
Not for the time being. that train has already run away. it should be our intention to create a process for more careful steps to be taken from now on.
I think that GM v11 has left many creators in a difficult situation as it was presented. Just like other versions. it contains many bugs.
The most important point is quality control and the release of the new version with the least amount of problems. Releasing a broken version with new features and forcing creators to switch to this version will only disappoint people.
This kind of approach will lead to creators and players abandoning the system after a certain period of time.
The product team should tell and even enforce that the product is not ready and should not be released in this way. If they do this but are forced to release it, the person in charge of the product team should be questioned. Because what is being done is nothing more than damaging the system.
Imagine going to a event and introducing the TSB Tools. yes, we have these features, but this is buggy. this is not working. The physics engine is faulty. aaaa how did this happen. why is it broken now, it was actually working?
Let’s extend this a little bit more. Unity releases a new version and like Game Maker, a lot of places are broken, buggy, and most things now work differently and old mechanics work incorrectly. and they continue to do this with every release. What would be the result?
Probably a lot of developers would leave Unity for good and move to other Engines. Probably including the TSB Team.
I don’t think it’s more than an excuse to say that we are in Alpha version for these things. Yes, we help as much as we can. we report bugs, etc. But it should be questioned how correct it is to act without considering the creators and players.
