TSB sponsored the 2024 Woman in Web3 Award. Can you give us some metrics measuring the impact on this event on the Sandbox ecosystem?

Hi! Women in Web3 team!

Looks like a worthy cause! Can you help me understand a little bit more clearly what The team is going to actually be doing?

Is it just attending these events and setting up a booth like SIP-10 Blockchain events? There’s mention of an academy but I can’t figure out if that means you’re setting up a training school like SIP-12 Sandbox Academy.

Thank you! Welcome to the DAO community!

As Women in Tech Global, we were honored to have The Sandbox sponsor our Woman in Web3 Award category in 2024, which generated significant impact across our network. Across all our award categories, we received over 6000 nominations, with 500+ specifically in the Web3 category from women worldwide. The combined media and social media reach for our awards program exceeded 2 million views.

The Sandbox’s 2024 sponsorship covered our EU and Global events (2 out of 8 regional events), which proved to be a successful pilot for deeper collaboration. Through these events, we identified numerous key leaders and role models in the global web3 space who have shown strong interest in The Sandbox ecosystem.

While we didn’t establish specific KPIs for the 2024 sponsorship, our 2025 proposal includes comprehensive tracking mechanisms to measure direct impact on The Sandbox ecosystem:

  • Implementation of unique tracking codes for award-related user acquisition
  • Development of a structured ambassador program leveraging our award nominees and winners
  • Post-event engagement metrics across all 8 regional events
  • Direct community growth measurements

This data-driven approach, combined with our expanded regional presence, will allow us to better quantify and optimize the impact of the proposed 250,000 SAND investment. We believe this comprehensive partnership will significantly amplify The Sandbox’s presence in the women in web3 space while creating measurable ecosystem growth.

Thank you for the warm welcome and great questions! Let me clarify the three main components of our proposal:

  1. Global Events Presence Unlike SIP-10’s focus on blockchain events, our events strategy is more targeted. We’re bringing The Sandbox to high-impact forums like WEF Davos and Expo 2025, where we’ll be actively showcasing The Sandbox’s leadership in web3 innovation. Additionally, through our Women in Tech Regional and Global Awards program, The Sandbox will have exclusive sponsorship of the “Woman in Web3” category across 8 global events - going beyond booth presence to actively recognize and promote women leaders in the space.
  2. Educational Academies While SIP-12 Sandbox Academy focuses on general creator education, our academies are specifically designed to bring more women into The Sandbox ecosystem across five key Asian markets (India, Japan, Singapore, Philippines, and Malaysia). These programs will include:
  • Hands-on training in Sandbox tools and creation
  • Mentorship from successful women creators
  • Support for launching their first projects
  • Career pathways into The Sandbox ecosystem
  1. Policy Impact through the Osaka Protocol This is a unique aspect of our proposal that goes beyond events or education. We’re developing a comprehensive policy framework for gender equity in digital innovation, to be signed during Expo 2025. The Sandbox’s participation in this initiative positions it as a global leader in promoting inclusive web3 development.

Each component is designed to work together - we identify talented women through our events, train them through our academies, and create systemic change through policy work. Our goal is to build a sustainable pipeline of women creators and leaders in The Sandbox ecosystem.

Okay! Makes sense now. It’s like a combined SIP-10 & SIP-12 focused on increasing women participation.

So far our leadership has 1 woman on the Special Council. The Advisory Board might not be leadership…I’m not certain yet, although 2 of the 6 are women.

Does this align with your intent of showcasing, or do you intend to showcase in another way?

When I read this I thought it was referring to a body of law, but when I googled it a token project called the Osaka Protocol showed. It does mention the word equality, is this what you’re referring to?

Hi Lanzer,
So I think we should put forward the women in the leadership roles to serve as inspiration and role models and also the men who are supporting the women in an inclusive way - Sebastien Borget for example is a great advocate for women.
I hope that with our work and support, more women will be able to be present and contribute in The Sandox leadership team.

For the Osaka protocol, it is not the project you found. For the moment the Osaka Protocol we are working on is indeed a policy framework - inspired by the Kyoto Protocol, but instead of tackling climate issues, we’re focusing on Gender Equity for Innovative & Sustainable Digital Societies.

It aims to advance gender equity in our increasingly digital world. Drawing inspiration from the Kyoto Protocol’s structure, it creates binding commitments and measurable targets across four interconnected pillars that address the critical challenges women face in our digital society.

Through Education and Skills Enhancement, the Protocol establishes programs and standards to ensure women and girls have access to quality digital education, from basic digital literacy to advanced technical skills in areas like AI, blockchain, and cybersecurity. This foundation is crucial for enabling full participation in the digital economy.

The second pillar, Inclusive & Innovative Workforce Development, focuses on transforming workplace cultures and practices. It addresses systemic barriers women face in tech careers, creating frameworks for equitable hiring, promotion, and leadership development while fostering inclusive innovation environments.

Addressing Gender Bias in Emerging Technologies, the third pillar, ensures that as we develop transformative technologies like AI, we actively prevent and eliminate gender biases. This includes establishing standards for inclusive technology development and creating tools to detect and mitigate bias in existing systems.

The fourth pillar, Digital Inclusion, tackles the broader societal aspects of the digital gender divide. It creates mechanisms to ensure women have equal access to digital tools, internet connectivity, and digital financial services, particularly focusing on underserved communities and regions.

Set to be unveiled at the Women in Tech Global Summit in April 2025, the Protocol brings together governments, corporations, academic institutions, and civil society organizations in a coordinated effort to create sustainable change. Through its pledge-and-commitment framework, signatories make concrete commitments to advance gender equity across these four pillars, with clear metrics and accountability mechanisms to ensure progress toward a more inclusive digital future.

Ohhhhh. Okay, makes sense! I appreciate you explaining the four pillars to me. How does the fourth pillar distinguish itself from the second pillar? They read somewhat similar.

What is an example of an accountability mechanism?

Thanks for helping me learn!

The fourth pillar (Digital Inclusion) and the second pillar (Inclusive & Innovative Workforce Development) of the Osaka Protocol focus on different aspects of promoting gender equity in the digital world. Digital Inclusion is all about ensuring that women have broad access to digital resources, which means making sure they can use digital tools, have reliable internet connectivity, and access digital financial services, especially in underserved communities. On the other hand, Workforce Development zeroes in on the professional side of things. It aims to change workplace cultures, create fair hiring practices, and tackle barriers that women face in tech careers. So, while Digital Inclusion is about basic access and rights in society, Workforce Development is focused on helping women advance professionally within tech environments. Essentially, one is about foundational access, and the other is about climbing the career ladder.

The Osaka Protocol will have a pledge-and-commitment framework where organizations can make specific commitments, like training 100,000 women in Web3 technologies. To ensure accountability, there will be a reporting system in place. This means that signatories will need to submit annual progress reports detailing their achievements and the steps they’ve taken to meet their commitments. This system not only promotes transparency but also helps track real progress in advancing gender equity in digital technologies.

Thanks for dumbing it down so much :slightly_smiling_face: makes sense

Are you all comfortable making these reports public? I can totally understand the perspective that it might create an unfair comparison situation, but I see think the benefit of seeing how these commitments unfold is worth the risk.

Hi Lanzer! I’m loving how interested you are in our project! I guess the key point here is that transparency in this kind of data is actually helpful, not harmful. Sure, organizations might worry about direct comparisons, but they can share their data anonymously if they prefer. What really matters is getting an accurate picture of where we stand with female representation in the tech space so we can make meaningful improvements. It’s not about pointing fingers - it’s about understanding the reality and figuring out how to make positive changes. The focus should be on progress, not comparison. Hope that helps

Yup, I’m in complete alignment with that, it’s not about pointing fingers. I didn’t think of the anonymous path. Yeah that makes the most sense.

If that data were made available, I could easily integrate it into my podcast… Maybe even make a podcast episode of it and I’d LOVE to have you all on as a guest if you’re comfortable with that :slightly_smiling_face:

What a great idea!! Let’s do it!

Sounds good! Is there a specific milestone or event you’d like to see come to pass before I schedule it with you?

I’m good to wait for as long as you all think best or we could do it within the next two weeks. :slightly_smiling_face:

I think it’s better after the official announcement of the protocol and hopefully the Sandbox partnership and programs. End of Jan?

That sounds good to me! Where will the official announcement be made? I can set a reminder to check back in at that time :slightly_smiling_face:

Hello Women in Tech, welcome to the DAO!
I appreciate your initiative, it’s an inspiring cause. I have a few questions to better understand your proposal:

  1. You’re requesting 250,000 SAND as a budget. Is the idea to fund your global initiatives for Women in Tech as a whole, or is it solely focused on activities related to The Sandbox?

  2. Do you currently have any projects, IPs, or work already within The Sandbox ecosystem?

  3. Have you approached other DAOs in Web3 or metaverse ecosystems with this proposal? If so, who have you approached, and what was their response?

Thank you!

Thank you for the warm welcome and these thoughtful questions! Let me address each one:

Regarding the budget focus, the 250,000 SAND will support both global visibility initiatives and targeted community programs. The global portion of 150,000 SAND will secure The Sandbox’s presence and representation at high-profile events like WEF Davos and Expo 2025, support the Women in Web3 award category across 8 regional events, and contribute to the development and implementation of the Osaka Protocol. These initiatives position The Sandbox as a leader in web3 innovation and inclusion on the global stage. The remaining 100,000 SAND is dedicated to targeted community growth through Sandbox Academies across 5 Asian markets, including training materials, instructor compensation, and student incentives - all specifically focused on growing The Sandbox ecosystem by onboarding and supporting women creators.
