Live Event with Top Winners of Impact Game Jam

Hello Sandbox Community,

We are excited to present a proposal that aims to support positive social impact through a live event showcasing the top winners of the Impact Game Jam, a global initiative where game creators design immersive experiences that address critical sustainability challenges such as pollution, deforestation, and overfishing.
The event will feature a 15k SAND prize pool and the creation of an NFT collection to raise funds for NGOs.
The initiative also aims to educate NGOs about Web3 and help integrate them into The Sandbox ecosystem, in collaboration with RadicalxChange.

Context:
In April 2024, The Sandbox, in collaboration with RadicalxChange’s Web3 for Social Impact Lab, launched the Impact Game Jam, encouraging game creators to design immersive experiences focused on global sustainability issues.
This initiative resulted in impactful games such as People are Electricity and Floating Haven, which raised awareness about environmental and social challenges. These games demonstrate the power of tech and gaming to engage players while driving positive change.

Building on the success of the Impact Game Jam, this proposal seeks to further amplify these efforts by introducing a new way to support NGOs through Web3-based donation models.
This initiative will not only help NGOs raise funds but also integrate them into The Sandbox ecosystem, providing access to new digital tools and networks that can empower and sustain their work in the long term. Additionally, we will provide education and onboarding for NGOs into the Web3 ecosystem to help them explore new potential funding sources that can further their missions.

What We Are Proposing:

• A live, gated event where participants can access the experience by owning NFTs
• The creation of two unique NFT collections (one for each of the selected NGOs) that will be sold on The Sandbox marketplace
• The NFTs will be sold for 20 SAND each, with a total supply of 2,000 NFTs (1,000 NFTs per collection)
• Educational resources to help NGOs integrate Web3 technologies into their operations and explore new funding opportunities

Key Stakeholders:

• RadicalxChange (RxC): Foundation focusing on leveraging open and decentralized tech for social impact
• Partner NGOs:
o Puerta18 (Argentina): Bridging the digital divide by providing access to technology and educational programs.
o Clinic+O (Guinea, Africa): Using technology to improve healthcare access for underserved communities.

This proposal represents an opportunity to harness the power of the metaverse and NFTs for social good while creating new pathways for charities to generate sustainable income and raise awareness in innovative ways.

We look forward to your support and are excited to see the impact we can create all together

Hi Aouatef!

Welcome to the forums and thank you for thinking of this proposal :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m happy to see that RxC has been involved as SandFam before! What would the NFT revenue go to?

Great to meet you!

Hi @Lanzer

Thanks for your question! The NFT revenue will be split equally and will go directly to supporting our 2 partner NGOs, Puerta18 in Argentina (tech education) and Clinic+O in Guinea (healthcare access). Beyond fundraising, our initiative aims to:

  • Engage Players: Integrate donation features in games, encouraging players to contribute through in-game assets.
  • Empower NGOs: Provide Web3 education and tools to help those 2 NGOs explore innovative fundraising models.
  • Create Impact: Build bridges between NGOs and Web3, foster meaningful contributions from gaming communities, and establish a sustainable ecosystem for funding social causes.

We’re excited to collaborate with The Sandbox community to bring this vision to life!

I’m not pressuring you to change your revenue split at all, just asking for clarity. Is any part of the revenue going back to the DAO?

The answer is allowed to be 0%, :slightly_smiling_face:

We’ve been very interested in creating revenue streams for our DAO to start on the long road to self-sufficiency, so this would help play into that conversation

Hi Aouatef, This is a great way to promote social impact gaming and clubbing them with Sandbox metaverse.

I like the idea of NFTs which are cheap so makes them super accessbile. Are these NGOs big in their home countries? How many people can they help Sandbox reach? Are you looking for more NGOs or are these two are the only ones?

Good work going on here.

Thank @gawiz for your message and support

Yes, we see NFTs as a powerful tool to enhance accessibility and engagement, allowing more people to participate in social impact gaming while directly supporting meaningful causes.

Regarding the 2 NGOs partners, here are some infos:

  • Clinic O+ is a major player in healthcare in Guinea, with a mission to revolutionize access to care for underserved communities living on less than $3 a day. To date, it has improved the lives of over 45,000 individuals by leveraging technology and a collaborative provider network to deliver affordable, high-quality care.
    their website: https://clinic-o.org/

  • Puerta18 plays a key role in Buenos Aires, empowering young people (from 13 to 24 y.o) through free access to technology and education, bridging the digital divide. It is also a member of the project-based learning program of the Boston Museum of Science, in collaboration with MIT, using technological tools to promote art, design, gaming, and science.
    their Website: https://www.puerta18.org.ar/

Both organizations bring strong local engagement and credibility. Currently, we are focusing on these two NGOs.

Hey,

The experiences from this Game Jam were really great so I’d be thrilled to see them featured in an event.

Also having RadicalXChange joining our ecosystem and participating in our DAO seems a great partnership to move forward into Web 3 education & sustainability.

Good idea here !

When proposing this idea, we hadn’t initially considered directing revenue back to the DAO, as our primary focus was on creating new donation models for NGOs through gaming.

Players will be encouraged to use some of their in-game assets to support NGOs, integrating donation mechanics into gameplay. This approach fosters a culture of generosity and positive impact while allowing NGOs to expand their donor base and explore new funding models.

Additionally, this model serves as an entry point for NGOs to familiarize themselves with Web3. Our goal is to equip them with the knowledge and tools to leverage blockchain and the metaverse for innovative fundraising strategies.

That being said, we’re always open to discussions on how this could align with the DAO’s sustainability goals.

Hello @Aouatef_RxC,

Thank you for posting your proposal. Here are few question comments from my end:

About RxC:

  • Aouatef : are you one of the member listed here?About - RadicalxChange
  • What is your connection with the TSB company?
  • I have seen on the reports from the DAO Admin team that a proposal from RxC was in discussion. Is it this one?

About the proposal:

  • Whatever the budget proposal, it should be clear which exact percentage of the NFTs sales will go to the NGOs and what is beeing considered as development costs.
  • How those NGOs were selected. You explained what they are doing but what were the selection criteria?
  • How did you get to know them?
  • Your SIP will need to include some impact metrics.

Last but not least:

Looking forward to read you.

I recommend giving a % of revenue back to the DAO, if even 5%.

Thank you @KCL for reaching out and for your thoughtful questions. I appreciate the opportunity to clarify these points.
About RadicalxChange (RxC):
• I lead the Web3 for Social Impact Lab at RadicalxChange. While I’m not listed on the About page (which highlights the Board and Core Team), RadicalxChange operates as a decentralized network with contributors from various backgrounds working on projects aligned with its mission
• Last year, through Impact Game Jam, we connected with Nicola Sebastiani, CCO and US CEO at The Sandbox, and his team member Corentin Catrice, Game Jam Program Manager. We were also connected to Mathieu Cervety, VP of the Ecosystem Team at The Sandbox
• Regarding the proposal mentioned by the DAO Admin team, it might be ours, as we are considering submitting a SIP
About the Proposal:
Here are some info about budget breakdown & Fund Allocation:
• 15k SAND – Event prize pool (gated with the NFT)
• 2k SAND – Minting costs (common catalysts)
• 1k SAND – NFT collection creation (artist, marketing). We aim to sell out the collection for 20,000 SAND, with 100% of the revenue going directly to the NGOs
• @Lanzer suggested giving 5% of the revenue back to the DAO, but I’m unsure about this suggestion as this is a charity operation

NGO Selection Criteria and How We Connected:
• The two NGOs we selected are part of our lab network, and we did not proceed through DAO for this selection. They meet the following criteria:

  1. Proven track record of measurable impact in their communities. These are locally-driven, small-to-medium-sized organizations, definetly not large entities like UNICEF or others, but that are highly experienced and locally-impactful
  2. Willing and able to engage with the Web3 and gaming for fundraising and community engagement. We aim to equip them with the knowledge to leverage Web3
    • From the perspective of small/medium organizations, they currently lack the opportunity to leverage Web3 due to limited information, partnerships, resources and insufficient skills. We tried to provide an opportunity to onboard them and help them harness Web3 for greater social impact
    • We also aim to plan to organize a physical event in Buenos Aires with Puerta18 and The Sandbox community.
Regarding Past NGO Fundraising within TSB & DAO Feedback:
    • We appreciate the context you provided regarding past NGO fundraising attempts within TSB. We will review the previous proposals and feedback to understand the challenges and community concerns

Through this proposal, we aim to demonstrate how the entire value chain, from creators and developers (creating SDGs experiences through Impact Game Jam) to players (playing and exploring the top four winners Impact Game Jam and contributing through asset-Donations) to NGOs (onboarding to Web3 skills), can generate real impact.

We really want to design a transparent and impact-driven proposal

I understand why you say this. I’m trying to help you. We’ve funded a few charity events already with mixed results. It isn’t about your SIP being a charity operation, it’s about getting your SIP the amount of yes votes to pass.

Sandbox DAO supports a for-profit gaming metaverse. My intuition is that we’ve hit our charity limit for awhile. Putting in a revenue ROI % helps make it more than a charity SIP. I want your SIP to succeed.

So sorry for my late reply @lanzer. I truly appreciate your support and guidance on this. I understand the challenge of balancing impact-driven initiatives with the DAO’s for-profit focus.

I’ve reviewed the RC feedback and acknowledge that the ecosystem has likely reached its charity limit for now. So, let’s initiate something disruptive, an alternative sustainable model that benefits the ecosystem, following your suggestion. Here are two key positive impacts to highlight:

1/ Testing a new revenue model with a % return to the DAO : We will run an experiment with the DAO to assess the viability of generating profit from an event using an NFT collection.
2/ Scalability for NGOs and the Sandbox ecosystem : If successful, this model could encourage other NGOs to adopt similar strategies, creating independent revenue streams and strengthening the overall Sandbox community.

With these points in mind, I’d love to refine the SIP proposal further to ensure it aligns with the DAO’s objectives and maximizes its chances of passing.

Let me know your thoughts on the best way forward.

Thanks!

Can you help me understand what these two mean? Does #1 say you will input a % return or just study it and decide if you will or won’t later?

What does “availability for NGOs” mean?

Yes, you’re right. It’s about what you suggested earlier, testing a new revenue model with a 5% return to the DAO, as you mentioned that the DAO has reached its charity limit. So, this is about experimenting with this idea.

Okay, got it, thanks. So you’re going with 5%. You could do less or more, whatever you think you can successfully defend when requesting votes.
