Background

In April 2024, The Sandbox and RadicalxChange Web3 Lab launched the Impact Game Jam, the phase #1 (Impact Game Jam) of a broader vision: to activate creators worldwide to build socially impactful experiences addressing urgent sustainability issues like pollution, deforestation, and poor labor conditions. This initiative successfully engaged 425 participants from 17 countries, resulting in the creation of 36 unique game and a total of 20 awarded games. Among these, standout games like People Are Electricity and Floating Haven used immersive storytelling and gameplay to raise awareness on global issues in powerful new ways.

But creation is just the beginning.

Now, we move into Phase #2 (Live Event Top winners), we shift focus from creators to players. This next step is about activating The Sandbox community to play, explore, and give, transforming awareness into action. By showcasing the top four winning games in a live event gated by a charity-supporting NFT, we invite players to directly support local NGOs making a tangible difference on the ground.

Through gameplay, players become donors.

This proposal aims to increase visibility and financial sustainability through a Web3-based donation model.

Solution Proposed

We propose a live, an event in The Sandbox , celebrating the 4 top winners of the Impact Game Jam while launching an experimental Web3 donation model that directly benefits grassroots NGOs.

This immersive experience invites players to enjoy socially conscious games and support real-world impact through an NFT sale.

Event Description & NFT Fundraising

4 Top Game Jam experiences showcased to the community :

Access to the prizepool is gated through NFTs ownership , turning participation into a gesture of support. Players who hold one of the NFT have access to the prizepool event.

The NFTs, priced at 30 SAND, serve as both a donation to the selected NGOs and a share to the prizepool. 2000 copies will be minted in total (1000 per NFT).

All funds collected from this collection will be 95% donated and split equally among 2 selected NGOs, the rest of 5% goes for RadicalxChange support. The goal is to raise 60,000 SAND.

The event will be listed on The Sandbox Event Page and NFT can be bought directly on the marketplace.

The NFT sales will be collected by the DAO admin wallet and redistributed to NGOs.

Prizepool Eligibility & Distribution

We propose a 30,000 SAND prize pool, shared between all players who bought an Impact NFT & complete the quest event objective. (1 share max per participant)

Participants will receive their share in SAND directly on their Sandbox Account on the claim page.

SIP author must refrain from buying NFTs.

NGOS

  • Puerta18 is a non-profit organization based in Buenos Aires, Argentina whose goal is to bridge the digital divide among teenagers and young adults. By providing free for use equipment, classes and other initiatives, Puerta18 is working to give every young person from underprivileged backgrounds a chance to learn and develop their technical skills and have interact with technology in a positive and impactful way.

  • Clinic+O based in Guinea is an NGO with a mission to revolutionize healthcare for underserved communities living on less than $3 a day. By leveraging technology and a collaborative network of providers, our model delivers affordable, accessible, and high-quality care, saving patients up to 60% on primary care costs and improving the lives of over 45,000 individuals to date.

To ensure this initiative creates real, lasting social impact, RadicalxChange has selected two grassroots NGOs based in the Global South. These organizations were chosen based on their:

  1. Proven track record of measurable impact in their communities. These are locally-driven, small-to-medium-sized organizations, but that are highly experienced and locally-impactful
  2. Willing and able to engage with the Web3 and gaming for fundraising and community engagement. We aim to equip them with the knowledge to leverage Web3
  3. From the perspective of small/medium organizations, they currently lack the opportunity to leverage Web3 due to limited information, partnerships, resources and insufficient skills. We tried to provide an opportunity to onboard them and help them harness Web3 for greater social impact.

To maintain transparency, all raised funds from the NFT sale will be distributed directly from the DAO treasury to the NGOs, in SAND, via wallet transfers.

Use of Funds

  • Clinic 0+, the donation will help train around ten healthcare workers in digital tools and telemedicine. Each trained health worker is expected to reach and treat approximately 650 patients. It’s worth noting that among those 650 teleconsultations, around 30% of underserved patients are likely to require emergency care

  • Puerta18, the donation will go toward purchasing digital materials, computer, and a virtual headset to support the growing range of activities for underserved youth

RadicalxChange Support: Education, Marketing & Long-Term Enablement

RxC will play a central role in ensuring the success, visibility, and sustainability of this initiative during and after the event. RxC will provide to NGOs:

  • Assistance in setting up crypto wallets for both NGOs to receive SAND donations and engage with The Sandbox ecosystem.
  • Workshop and guidance to guide them into Web3, exploring opportunities within the Web3 ecosystem and continue co-creating meaningful impact.

RxC will ensure strong visibility of the event, through The Sandbox and the DAO social media. The RadicalxChange community will be also activated to support the initiative.

The goal is also to establish a compelling use case that can be replicated in benefit for small and medium-sized NGOs.

RadicalxChange will take 5% of the total raised funds. (If 60K is raised, that represents 3000 SAND).

Benefit to The Sandbox Ecosystem

  • This initiative brings NGOs from the Global South into The Sandbox ecosystem, helping them set up wallets, understand metaverse fundraising, and build presence on our platform.
  • By transforming the best Game Jam entries into a live, NFT-gated experience, we extend the life and reach of creator-generated content offering greater visibility, playability, and relevance for the broader community. It keeps creators engaged and provides a replicable model for showcasing Jam outcomes.

Alternatives Considered

Standalone NFT Drop Without a Live Event: This would have reduced production complexity and costs. However, it lacked the community engagement, gamification, and visibility that a live event in The Sandbox can provide. The live event adds excitement, reinforces player involvement, and aligns better with The Sandbox’s immersive experience goals.

First let me start tagging @Geraldine: is it possible to provide when a SIP is coming for discussion a link to the previous thread if one was open. It usefull as finding it back is always complicated. Live Event with Top Winners of Impact Game Jam. For those that want to see the previous discussion.

Welcome back @Aouatef_RxC,

  • It seems that this is the case but the can you confirm that it is the TSB DAO wallet that will be credited when NFT are purchased
  • Can you confirm that TSB DAO wallet will distribute the rewards and transfer funds to the NGO.
  • If that is the case rewards will be given to player via claims page or via direct transfer on wallet? I would advice the same exclusion of TSB company and TSB DAO
  • I appreciate the mention " SIP author must refrain from buying NFTs." but can when it is about “contingency plans” can you confirm that we are not speaking about buy out of remaining NFTs.
  • It should made clear on the event page that if a player is buying several NFTs we is eligible or not to several shqre of the prize pool.
  • Must be clear the snapshot will happen right after the end of the event and any potential prolongation of the sale (eg: could be a kind of contingency plan) should be mentionned already (eg: if less than 25% of the NFTs are sold the sale can be prolonged by xxx weeks)

Those 3 last points are very important to players. With the last experience of the redcross if anything goes wrong again I think we can close the idea of raising funds in TSB for charity for the next years to come.

After those technical details, I have a last question about the selected experiences. how where those selected? You mention the Impact Game Jam and provide link to video and X post but for example I cannot find “People are Eleictricity” mention in both.

Good luck for this SIP. Personnally I have not yet make up my mind about my voting.

hello,
Thank you for preparing this SIP.

How will the project ensure sufficient NFT sales to meet the fundraising goal of 60,000 SAND, given the risk of low sales (<500 NFTs) and the reliance on intensified outreach as a contingency plan?

Agreed. For a minute there, I thought this skipped :light_bulb: SIP: Ideas before seeing your link and realizing I actually had quite a bit of conversation with the author on it. Feels like a lifetime ago!

I see that they choose to do 95% to charity and 5% back to their organization. My recommendation was to do a small percentage back to the DAO. I still feel the same that we’ve done quite a bit of charity since starting about 12 months ago.

I’m undecided right now but I’m unsure if I’ll be supporting it.

It would be very cool to see more ROI from SIPs :rocket:

Self-sustainability is a great long-term goal that we can start working towards today.

I hope we get to chat actively with @Aouatef_RxC (and Malik?) here on the Forum.

Some good questions and ideas shared already @KCL, @Lanzer, and @hishmad.

Hi @KCL great to be back and thank you for your suggestions . I’ll do my best to answer to your questions, and may need @Geraldine support on a few technical points.

  1. Yes, the TSB DAO wallet will be credited when NFTs are purchased.
  2. About Fund Management : The TSB DAO wallet will distribute rewards to eligible players and Transfer funds to the selected NGOs
    This ensures transparency and clarity.
  3. About Experience Selection:
First, awards were granted by The Sandbox community during the Impact Game Jam ceremony (end of June 2024).
Then, we opened it up to our community with a Ranked Choice Voting on September 9, 2024, Link to the vote: https://x.com/radxchange/status/1833275902567879149?s=46&t=XterBDGsXdZKOTBmf6xyuw

Hi @Lanzer Hi Lanzer,
Great to hear from you  We did take your suggestion into account and had internal discussions with the DAO team. Given that this is a 100% charitable operation, we ultimately decided to direct all funds to the NGOs. Our organization is a non-profit as well, and the share mentioned in the SIP is specifically allocated to cover education and training components.

Hi @theKuntaMC , I will definitely do my best to be active here , @MalikRxC is also here to support. Really appreciate questions, they help us improve and complete the SIP. We’re also open to any suggestions to further enhance it.

You’re absolutely right @hishmad the success of the NFT sales depends largely on our ability to activate our marketing and communication plan, leveraging both our networks and engaged communities.
I’d really love to hear any suggestions you might have to further strengthen the plan.

Hello again @Aouatef_RxC

Has research been done on whether this SIP will onboard new users, or if its impact is limited to Sandbox current player community?

Hey @Aouatef_RxC :waving_hand:t4:

I know this SIP would be a few days into voting by June 10, but that’s the soonest I can host you on Twitter Spaces.

What do you think?

You are, of course, also free to schedule and promote a Space yourself for sometime early next week. Planning that might also show the community here your ability for marketing and communications. It would also be good to address questions and take suggestions sooner rather than later.

Shall we schedule together?
Or do you wanna run a Space yourself?

Be sure to give a few days advance notice on this Forum so people can refine their questions and plan to join you if they can.

Hi @hishmad,
1/ one of the NGOs, based in Argentina, has a community of young adults it helps use technology to open new opportunities. This community will be receptive to metaverse gaming.
2/ RxC community is about 4,000 folks around the world, many gamers and web3 native, that’s another avenue to expand TSB active players.

@theKuntaMC, thanks for offering, that would be a great forum to publicize and discuss the SIP. I could be available on June 10. After 4pm CET. Feel free to coordinate with @Aouatef_RxC

Acknowledging the substantial size of the community you’re building, has any formal research or inquiry been undertaken to understand their engagement with sandbox games? Specifically, metrics regarding experience levels (e.g., percentage who have played versus not played) and sentiment (e.g., proportion who enjoy or dislike them) would be insightful.

Hi @theKuntaMC! We’d love to do it together! June 10 after 4pm CET works well for us — does that work for you too?

To be totally frank with you, @hishmad, we haven’t conducted formal research of that kind yet.

Sure

@kcl as oper the implementation plan, the Admin team will manage minting NFT, collecting funds on its own sandbox account and distributing through the claim page.
I have a meeting today with the liveops team to manage the last details of this event. (page setup, description, event lenght, prizepool distribution, etc)

The admin team will also send SAND collected to both of the NGO, thus this will be transparent through the blockchain explorer.
