RFP: Create an Educational Experience in The Sandbox about the DAO Governance Process

The Sandbox DAO is calling on creators to design a fun, educational game experience about the DAO. The goal of the game is to help the community understand how the DAO works and inspire their involvement.

You can help to make the DAO accessible and playful while getting your experience funded by the DAO!

:compass: The Goal

Leave players better informed about AND inspired to participate.

We want players to better understand:

  • What the Sandbox DAO is and how it works
  • How an idea can come to life
  • How to vote on a SIP
  • How to write a SIP
  • How to delegate your voting power (VP)
  • How your SIP is curated by the Admin Team
  • How to unlock a milestone and get paid
  • Navigating the forum with ease & how to share ideas
  • What the different roles in the DAO are

:light_bulb: Eligibility

:white_check_mark: 18+ with a verified sandbox.game account

:white_check_mark: Original work only (or properly licensed assets)

:white_check_mark: Must use the latest version of the Game Maker (0.12) and respect its technical guidelines

:white_check_mark: Include at least one playtest/demo phase to gather community feedback during development

Solo creators, teams, and studios are all welcome to submit proposals!

:trophy: What makes a great game?

We’re looking for experiences that:

:bullseye: Put the player in the shoes of a DAO community member, SIP author, voter, or delegate

:joystick: Use engaging mechanics like quests, puzzles, choices, and interactive NPCs

:books: Deliver clear educational value, breakdown DAO concepts in a fun and easy-to-understand way

:counterclockwise_arrows_button: Offer replayability, different outcomes based on player choices

:tada: Keep players motivated and curious with rewards, progress indicators, or feedback loops

:globe_showing_europe_africa: Are accessible for all levels of DAO knowledge, from complete beginners to active voters

:sparkles: Leave players inspired to engage forum posts, contribute their own original ideas, and to participate in governance (either via direct votes OR the delegation of their voting power)

:memo: Submission requirements

Your proposal should cover:

  • Project Overview: What’s your game concept and how will it meet the learning goals?
  • Gameplay & Learning Approach: How will the experience teach voting, delegation, SIP writing, and funding?
  • Team Introduction: Who’s involved? What’s your experience? Share examples of past work if possible.
  • Timeline & Milestones: Key phases of development, including one community playtest/demo.
  • Budget Breakdown: Total requested funding with details on how it will be allocated.
  • Include concept art, draft narratives, mockups, anything that helps us visualize your idea!

:money_bag: Funding available

The selected project can receive up to 30,000$ in SAND, depending on the scope of the proposal and milestone plan. Funding will be distributed based on agreed milestones to ensure smooth delivery and accountability.

:ballot_box_with_ballot: How the selection works

Shortly after the submission period closes, all eligible proposals will be shared with the community. The Sandbox DAO members will then vote to decide which experience they’d most like to see come to life.

Awesome, I love it. Super happy you did it.
@Delegates (I guess it make sense to ask you) is there anybody else who want to submit a proposal ?
Why not a partnership, if you’re interested let me know.

Thanks again to the team for making this possible.

Oooooo. I think we (MetaWorlds) can do this.

@dankoyy if we supply you with the DAO material and full specifications, could you either create the Vox assets or create the experience in GM…or both?

We could easily wireframe this together and MetaWorlds is already has a DAO curriculum that we can really turn into an experience. I already have the agreements with TSB in place from GMF and BC1.

All we’d need to do is negotiate your fee and add it to ours. Plus any other partners we need to do this.

Would also be a GREAT opportunity to use Magic Palette @Pepe and showcase it once it’s built.

I’m just tagging everyone at this point to see if this is something that is viable

If so, I’ll get the team on it and we’ll create the proposal for this RFP

Thoughts?

@Geraldine I highly recommend TSB DAO has this project built on 0.12 to get the most value.

I’m TSB’s former education lead/expert who:

  • Created TSB’s first game-based learning experiences to guide education partners (learned from edu leaders who’ve worked at Microsoft and Epic)
  • Prototyped and pushed for the Tutorial First Time Square experiences to be perpetually open to educate players on controls, Web3, etc.
  • Gave feedback to LD to improve GM logic templates (and proposed innovative educational methods using templates)
  • Has knowledge of 0.12 features coming (beyond the roadmap, because I owned the documentation)
  • Designed and delivered tutorials, programs, curricula, and games for learning in TSB and Minecraft

Trust me, it’s worth the wait! Even if some features have to be delayed in development, which can happen, there are still multiple aspects of 0.12 that make waiting worth it.

The community will realize the greater potential once it’s live. I recommend they research and use AI for guidance on educational methods that can make this project more effective leveraging 0.12’s features, too.

This experience should be launched to the map and maintained permanently like the Tutorial First Time Square experiences for even greater educational value and DAO engagement, but that would require long term maintenance and cost to keep up to date with changes to the platform.

Don’t have the bandwith to join in but love the initiative and looking forward to it! :fire:

Any idea how long?

Thanks for commenting about this btw!! : )

Would an experience created on 0.11 not would work on 0.12?

It just would just be limited by the current suite of features, you’re saying, right?

Thanks for the clarity here : )

My experience. Almost every new GM release renders some triggers from previous versions inoperable and fixes must occur to make it work with the current version. :slightly_smiling_face:

Wild opportunity! I second @SANDcultivator it should be built on 0.12, which is on the way. The update offers a significant upgrade.

TrendyNerds will give it a shot, too.

@Lanzer Thanks for the quick ping. We would be thrilled to see teams leverage Magic Palette to accelerate project development and unlock creative flexibility. We can’t wait to see the innovative experience you’ll submit that showcase your vision for the DAO Hub!

We think Magic Palette offers great potential for quickly prototyping fully playable block-based game maps. It allows you to demonstrate a project’s vision very early, and you can create level design concepts in minutes rather than hours or days, which is perfect for a pitch like this here.

Sandfam members and creators, if you have questions about building impressive level designs efficiently with the help of Magic Palette, feel free reach out to me or my team directly. We are eager to guide you through the process and help bring your ideas to life.

Dankoyy and I reached an agreement on our teaming arrangement. We intend on using Magic Palette for the design

We’re looking for a talented Voxel Artist to create the unique assets and a graphic designer to develop the concept art,

please @Lanzer

Thanks @SANDcultivator for the input, indeed I had a doubt on the version.
Is there already some documentation for the builders?

Considering the DAO timeline (eligibility, discussion and voting), the experience will not start building before July.

Answering multiple questions above:

When 0.12?

The roadmap I linked says Summer 2025

Would a 0.11 experience not work on 0.12?

Some fixes may be needed when updating to new versions
(e.g., 0.11 needed an upgrade guide due to the introduction of movement palettes, objectives system port, and other minor issues)

It’d just be limited by 0.11 features, right?

Correct - 0.12 will simply unlock more possibilities

Is there 0.12 documentation for builders?

The roadmap I linked is public knowledge on the topic (docs about a new version go live when it’s released to the public)

To be clear, I’m no longer working at The Sandbox, and all I can point to is the public roadmap I linked. The save data feature it refers to is one obvious change that will be revolutionary for game design in general and highly impactful for educational game design. Other aspects of 0.12 I have in mind for effective educational design are not public information yet, so I can’t provide more details. Sorry! :woman_bowing:t2:

I know an experienced team can ideate, plan, and build a game fast, but retrofitting or passing on new features both come at different costs. I’m simply recommending to research educational design now and kick off the production process with a solid concept once you know all the tools that’ll be in your toolbox.

I wish you all the best on this project! I :blue_heart: game-based learning. This is the way.

Swipe Back will be sending a proposal ! :slightly_smiling_face:

We are the studio behind Ledger’s School of Block and Welcome to the factory. We love making fun educational games to convey all sorts of messages and knowledge and this project sounds like the perfect fit.

Excited to start working on this !

Can you confirm if the “up to 30,000$ in SAND” means $30,000 USD worth of SAND, or exactly 30,000 SAND tokens? If it’s 30,000 SAND tokens, will this amount stay the same if the token value changes? For instance, what happens if next month SAND reaches $8?

I totally understand, we all experience updates that kill experiences, but if we wait for .12, why not wait for .13?
What I just want to say, we have to move forward, the initiative is great.
It would be a shame not to do it and wait any longer.
This is perhaps even the first thing we should have done as TSB’s DAO; it’s the very essence of what we are and do here: gamification, experimentation, and construction.

I think the wait for .12 is only until this summer, no?

But your point is clear, sebga :+1:t4:

Thoughts from others about this?
