SIP-12: Run a Sandbox Academy in the Philippines

Hello SandFam! I would like to share with you all some of the progress of Sandbox Academy. The 1st day of the workshop will start tomorrow at the National College of Science and Technology. There’s just a little bit of a change. In my proposal, I indicated that the target number of attendees at each university is 20-40. Tomorrow it will be 80. And it will be divided into 2 classes. And since I’m already gonna do training in the school. I asked the school’s President and CEO if I could also ask all of the other students to register and be a part of the TSB community. And he gave me a big YES!!!

I will also organize a town hall in their assembly hall on the last day of the workshop and will be introducing them to TSB.

I will send some pics and vids of the actual workshop later.

Thank you sir! I’m free to have a podcast with you this weekend! It will be definitely a fun talk.

This won’t be possible without the support of SandFam and TSB DAO. That is why I’m so very grateful.

Hello Sandfam!!!

Day 1 of our Sandbox Academy workshop was a big success. There are 80 registered attendees, but the actual number of students in the workshop is a whopping 91. The other other unregistered students approached me and asked if they could still attend the workshop. So I let them get inside the computer room and they became Batch 3.

I almost lost my voice but it was so effing fun!!!

I left all the students and had them play around VoxEdit for the first 15 minutes of the class. And I was surprised that they already made some good assets. Then 15 minutes before the class ends, I asked them to create a thing that they love that they can find inside their school bags. And I was surprised that the assets they created were way much better than the ones they created before I started the class. I let one of the faculty members choose the best work and I rewarded the winning students with a food allowance of $4.

I also teach the students how to work with each other and collaborate as early as Day 1. Then some of them already formed their own groups and got ready for the Sandbox Academy GJ.

Some students also approached me and shared their game ideas and what they were planning to build for their 1st experience. My heart was jumping for joy and already saw the future builders of TSB.

Tomorrow will be our Day 2 and will go deep dive into Game Maker.

Great to see the progress @markbagogames! Has anyone who attended asked you about publishing their experiences?

Thanks @DAO ! I told them about publishing their own experience on Day 2. Then I’ll teach them how to do it on Day 3.

On my way to our Day 3 Workshop and the official announcement of the NCST Game Jam.

Nice! I was thinking along the lines of maybe getting some LANDs loaned to you, and then allowing your students to list and improve their experiences at their own time.

That is so very generous of you. A million thanks to you. But that is fine. One thing I’m teaching the students is to join TSB GJ so they can get their own land by winning.

Hello SandFam!!! I just finished Day 3 yesterday. I’ll be back on their campus next week to check their games before they submit it in our GJ.

Our next university will be either of the 2 depending on their availability.
