Benefit to The Sandbox Ecosystem

This event turns the metaverse into a real-world experience. It showcases what’s possible with LAND ownership, UGC, and community-led creation—building emotional connection and practical awareness around The Sandbox.

By activating during TOKEN2049, we put our ecosystem in front of a highly engaged, global audience. It’s not just brand exposure. It’s ecosystem participation: creators share their work, LAND owners see their plots come to life, and new users get a hands-on introduction to our tools and community.

It also marks the launch of a Southeast Asian Neighbourhood, our newest regional neighborhood, reinforcing The Sandbox’s commitment to cultural inclusion and localized expression which is the core to a decentralised world. This is exactly the kind of activation DAO funding should support: high-leverage, creator-first, and community-powered.

This is a well-structured proposal with clear objectives and a thoughtful budget. It’s impressive how you’ve tied the event to The Sandbox’s community and regional goals, especially with the focus on Southeast Asia and the launch of SEA LAND. Given that, I’d like to ask: How does this event align with The Sandbox’s long-term strategy for expanding its presence and user base in the Southeast Asia region, and what specific outcomes are expected to drive growth in this key market?

@Geraldine this SIP is not up for voting?

@KCL Not yet, it’s open for discussion if I have good understanding

Attendance at this event is important, yes, but the budget: Event Production & Setup Concept, buildout, decor, AV, props, design … seems quite high.
Does TSB have offices/a team in Singapore?

The budget does seem quite high. My SIPs faced a significant amount of review curation for far less. Marketing and onboarding SIPs seem to come through at high rate and I have concerns about the value to the ecosystem.

From what I understand, we have a very strong presence in the mindshare of that region. Can someone help me understand what I’m missing?

Given the size of the DAO budget, I believe it would carry much more meaning if new features or major announcements from The Sandbox — such as the 0.12 update or the upcoming mobile launch — were introduced or highlighted alongside the DAO’s initiatives.

Aligning governance efforts with platform-level innovation would help create stronger momentum and a clearer sense of purpose across the community.

Token 2049 Singapore is one of the biggest web3 events in any year, and my understanding is that Token Singapore brings in a larger crowd than the one in Dubai.

That said, I do agree that the costs are on the higher side. It’s expected as Singapore is one of the costliest cities in terms of cost of living (I live here)

Tell you what, if one of our delegates (hint hint @DAO ) was able to attend and we compensated them for their time…I would vote yes.

That mindshare would be directly linked to our DAO at that point and I’d be satisfied with its presence at one of the most popular Web3 events there is.

Well guess what, its very likely i’ll be attending  I might even force my way onto the stage to shill about the DAO.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to share some context and responses regarding this as I was a part of the team that has been conducting these events over the past few years.

Scale - Last year alone, Token2049 in Singapore had more than 800+ side events and its conducted in conjunction with the F1 race event every year including this one. This has multiple implications. Due to the size and cost as one of the most expensive countries in the world to live in, venue rentals come at an incredible price, especially if not booked early. We have always been innovative in trying to get the best deal to stretch the dollar and even the Glass Dome’s availability (a very strategic location in the CBD) at a reasonable price comes at personal relations the team has in Singapore. The second implication of this is the competition for attention as attendees are spoiled for choice having to compete with more than 800+ events over the span of 3-4 days. This would require a lot of marketing, community outreach etc and thus far over the past few years, we have consistently gotten more than 3000 RSVPs and about 250-300+ attendees which MIGHT seem like a huge dropout rate but when you consider many other events (even those that spent half a million to 1 million USD) sometimes had poor participation of about 30 pax, you can see that the effort to result is significant.

Budget - One thing to consider is that the budget is a worst-case scenario, meaning that assuming we get no sponsors and no savings, that is potentially the cost that you would expect. To put things in perspective venues of equivalent size as the Glass Dome (maybe a little bit bigger and at an equal or better location) can go up to USD 500,000 just for a single day rental which, as crazy as it sounds, is actually the prices that key locations are going for. Rental rates of USD50,000 to USD100,000 during that week is commonplace for a single venue. Even sponsorship requests (aka, we participate in other partner events rather than running our own) usually starts at USD50,000 to get access for 10-25 community members of ours. Naturally we have rejected all of these and we literally work with about 10% of what many are actually spending for a much better outcome. Additionally, if we do bring in the sponsors and get savings along the way, this would reduce the utility of the fund requested. In an ideal scenario, we would obtain sufficient sponsorships to cover half of the amount requested but it would be hard to say but its something the team would work at.

Long Term Strategy & Mindshare - Southeast Asia is definitely one of the key markets in terms of players and creators to TSB and Token2049 is the marquee annual event of the year. It’s not only the largest crypto event in the region, it is also the largest annual inbound event in Singapore across all industries. From our experience, having a successful event not only provides strong confidence in our community for growth but it also helps cement future business partnerships for us to bring into TSB and enrich is partner offerings. It is somewhat an intangible value which might be difficult to measure but if you need something to showcase to the SEA market that The Sandbox is thriving, growing and still leading the ecosystem, this is the event to be at. It’s interesting to note that it is also the largest scale even if you compare against other Token2049 events organised around the world.

New Announcements - The answer to this would be a definite yes, we would definitely have a major announcement during that time at the event although what specific announcements that might be would be subject to timing of what we’re launching around that time period. I can say that the announcement planned would most likely be a significant one.

DAO Representation - That is definitely something that we can do and definitely on our mind. @DAO has attended all the events we have conducted personally so he could probably attest to some of the information I have shared. If others are interested in attending or participating, we can definitely arrange for that if the DAO is comfortable of including the costs into the SIP. I do think that it’s hyper peak that week for Singapore so everything from flights to hotel would probably be at 3x the normal rate. I have heard some staying at 5-6 star hotels paying up to $2000-3000/night and a price of USD500/night is to be expected at most locations.

Will be happy to answer any more clarifications if you have any additional questions.

I forgot to add, there’s only 2 people from the TSB team in Singapore (myself and Belinda, the Country Manager) so all this has been organised by the both of us over the past few years.

Hello again, dawhat! Happy to see you again. I appreciated our conversation during SIP-10 :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you for the extended explanation and I’m happy to see you involved. Since @DAO (the Intern) lives in country, I can understand if a hotel is not required, but yes please, I think it would be fit and proper to increase the estimate to include the cost of his attendance…tickets, meal reimbursement, rental car (if needed) or fuel reimbursement, lodging (if needed).

With someone who can be there full-time to advocate for our DAO (the actual DAO–not the Intern known as @DAO), my concern would be satisfied.

Hi Lanzer, yes I think @DAO would be happy to keep costs at a minimum, he’s always welcome at all the activities we do but I do think we should at least have a session for the DAO which I can discuss with Belinda on.

PS. Yes, I was happy to converse again although I am personally not too happy with the results of the SIP-10 and pushing for all milestones to be completed, as late as it is. Conceptually everything is great but execution is key which for that I was unfortunately not directly involved in. Token2049 though we have done it many times and we are confident in our delivery.

Definitely need to clarify this huh

I usually attend to mingle with the team as well as community(not to forget the alpha passes and goodies). Past year events generally bring in quite the crowd(whole of Asia and South East Asia converges into Singapore for the week) so the visibility is definitely there. Its also a time when other communities like Mocaverse and the likes converge and realise that we are still marching strong and building both as a platform and a community.

Who would be the best person to get on a Twitter Spaces and talk about this proposal, @dawhat? Ideally, an individual who will direct the execution of the SIP.

Let’s get a Spaces calendared for next week? Tuesday or Wed…

What do others think?

What are the most pressing questions to be addressed on air, @Delegates ?

We would be happy to have a Spaces and Belinda & myself would be the best to take the AMA. Next week should be doable and we can host it on TheSandboxSEA X channel too. Just let us know and we can get our team to arrange for it

This does seem extremely expensive for a relatively small in-person reach… but I’ve also come to realize that I may have been too stingy in the past. I’m still debating personally but I’m not immediately against it.
