SIP-30: Sandbox Side Event at TOKEN2049 – Community-First Activation at Glass Dome, Singapore

Hmm, this is one of the strangest SIPs. I’ll probably write a post about it.

It’s not possible for me to vote Yes, sorry.

I should be having more visitors than expected.

This is the very certain.
And to cover unforseen expenses which I’m sure of it’s possibility

I’m very flexible and open to all

Okay then

Thank you for the consideration

Trust me we have more expected visitors than normal and definitely there would be unforseen circumstances and expenses which the amount will be be the perfect backup

If this is going to be a community first event, I believe the long time sandfam should be invited and be able to participate in this event. Long time Sandfam who been here through everything, name drop some, VauxMachina,TPM, KOC, Au24kay, Bluetulip, GoWest,ERA to name some, a lot more. We would want to showcase the community, not just IPs.
Sandfam Community must be higlighted and empowered.

I can’t attend, but I think this event is absolutely necessary.

Have a great time.~!

Hello, Belinda here, country manager for Singapore.

Community has always been the core of our events. We had VauxMachina with us presenting last year on his project, special merch presented to the community and also showcases by partners in the region. Many landowners from all around the world and community ambassadors also attended (Here’s the tweet covering what we have done last year: https://x.com/TheSandboxSEA/status/1845809681807343949?t=1PL1EjdAUOvmUv_uA0XZDw&s=19) This year, we intend to have a special section dedicated to showcasing creators work including those who joined the recent Singapore City Builder Game Jam (which has the highest amount of submissions for any City Builder Game Jam). This is important to showcase the diverse backgrounds our creators come from. For example, one of our partners in Singapore have trained creators with special needs (such as autism, intellectual disability) who are now able to create beautiful voxel artwork. The space will allow us to shine the spotlight on their achievements.

As for the attendee numbers, I would like to clarify that the main TOKEN2049 event is the world’s largest crypto event, gathering over 25,000+ attendees, 8,000+ companies, and global media. Last year, we estimate having ~ 80,000 crypto folks in singapore attending the week of over 800+ side events. When we do our side event and promote it, we will get in front of the 80,000 people who are looking for events to attend. We usually get a lot of signups but the attendance fluctuated as people jump from event to event. We wanted to be conservative in terms of attendees numbers (300 pax) more for cost control for merch but will likely exceed for actual attendees. The space can accommodate up to 500 pax and people do come and go.

On cost, in Singapore, it’s better to do an event proper showing our strength as a community and capture mindshare. The cost is already lowered as we were able to get a preferential rate for venue. Venue such as the one we propose can cost 4x the price outside. We have organized Token2049 events for the past 2 years and have strived to keep costs reasonable. For context, many partners are asking for USD$50,000 - USD$100,000 sponsorship from us with very limited benefits.

Happy to address any questions in the AMA next week!

Alright thank you ma

I voted no because I haven’t gotten an answer to the question I asked in the forum.

What question please

Probably it skipped my view

I am voting yes. While I believe we should stop funding marketing activations, this is a more powerful way to stay in the forefront of Web3 minds and enhance the network effect. The COO (Seb) will be in attendance, and the impact on the budget is minimal (approximately 2%). TOKEN2049 is a well-attended event, and I believe these combined circumstances make this an acceptable use of funds.

I believe @hishmad may be referring to this inquiry:

How does this event align with The Sandbox’s long-term strategy for expanding its presence and user base in the Southeast Asia region, and what specific outcomes are expected to drive growth in this key market?

Hi @hishmad, sorry I thought that perhaps my long response answered that. In terms of alignment, Southeast Asia is definitely one of the key focus for TSB in terms of users. For this year, we are targeting to grow our player base in Southeast Asia by 30% and published experiences by almost 100%. Based on our numbers, we’re about 80% to our planned goal and will be happy to discuss this more during the AMA as there’s so many areas we can look at to achieve this goal as naturally, it’s a holistic goal made up of the numerous efforts of the team

Regarding specifically this event, Token2049 to me personally is a key brand statement to building community and creator confidence to continue believing in the long term trajectory of the platform and the community especially in this region. There are many other events like Coinfest Bali, SEA Blockchain Week, GM Vietnam etc but we felt that Token2049 would have the right impact not only for Singapore but for the rest of the region as well.

If we combine the announcements that we intend to make during the event, the PR value that we would derive from it would also go a long way to building community and player confidence. We do have PR & marketing spend planned which is within our existing budget plans and not included into this SIP.

I hope this provides some insight but if I did not accurately provide you the answers you seek, perhaps do add on more questions or join the AMA and we would be happy to share further as I believe its easier over a conversation. Thanks to @theKuntaMC for arranging that as well in advance

Hey @dawhat

1- This is a side event you’re planning to set up, right?

2- TheSandbox will officially be present at TOKEN2049, right?

3 - If I understand correctly, you want to boost TSB’s visibility and “aura” during this event, but in my opinion, it’s a “show of prestige” that costs the DAO too much.
I’m taking as an example some major projects that have held this kind of event, but in the end, it’s been detrimental to them.
Community events should be managed by the community, right?

Hi @sebga

In response

1- Yes, this would be considered the only official TSB related event during Token2049

2- At the main conference? No. We MIGHT have speaking slots but we definitely won’t have a booth there. It would cost significantly more to have even a small booth at the main conference itself

3- Rather than a show of prestige, it’s definitely a community affair as we’re looking at on-site tournaments etc for the community as its a whole day event rather than just a keynote alone. I understand that many have perhaps not succeeded in Token2049 but we do have a track record of pulling this off over the past few years successfully.

I understand that the cost might seem high but to reiterate, it is indicative of a worst case scenario. Our plan is to get sponsors to come in to share (and reduce) the cost as well as negotiate better pricing from vendors etc which we can’t exactly do if we don’t know what we’re working with. All savings will be passed back to the DAO and I think we should be measured on the savings as well. I think another thing important to share is that there is no profit or payment for time as we’re doing this as part of our role in TSB. Everything will be accompanied with receipts and will be based on cost.

I agree that community events could be managed by community but at the same time, community expects us to manage the community events as well. To be honest, we have spoken to some of our community to see if they would be interested to run it themselves but the time, scope and scale of what we do might be unreasonable for the community to sacrifice their time from work to do as well.

For reference, in order to be at the main Token2049 conference and have a space for 250 pax with just a stage and LED screen would cost about USD200,000

Yes exactly or less

Thank you for this response.
The votes from the big holders made me ask myself questions, and even more so after reading this.
I think I’ll change my vote.
There’s just one thing I would like to suggere about the on-site tournament.
Is it possible for part of the event to also take place online?
We’re a metaverse; everyone should be able to join the event even remotely.
Experiencing TOKEN2049 in TSB would be great, wouldn’t it?
