Problem Description

While The Sandbox’s mission is to empower creators, building a high-quality game currently requires significant time and technical skill. This high barrier to entry creates a content bottleneck, leaving many LANDs empty and preventing owners from utilizing their assets. To thrive, The Sandbox must make game creation radically more accessible, empowering the entire community to fill the metaverse with fun and engaging experiences.

Solution Proposed

Magic Realms is a revolutionary platform that uses procedural generation and AI to create complete, playable games with just a few clicks. Our goal is to make game creation as fast and fun as game playing, allowing users to generate a full multiplayer experience on their LAND in under three minutes.

The tool works by automatically generating unique level designs, placing essential assets, and integrating all necessary game logic for a chosen genre. We will launch with an AI-Powered Quiz Game module, followed by community-voted multiplayer experiences. There are various options like highly customizable Parkour courses or thrilling Deathmatch Arenas for these modules.

This project is an evolution of our existing DAO-supported tool, Magic Palette. The foundational work and proof-of-concept are complete, and backend upgrades are already in progress. We are ready to begin production of the first game module immediately upon the approval of this proposal.

How it works

  1. Choose a Genre: Pick from a list of popular game types.
  2. Generate & Customize: Dial in a few parameters and let our engine generate a unique game level for you.
  3. Baked-in Logic: All the complex game logic is automatically integrated.
  4. Let’s Play!: Export your game to the Game Maker, publish to your LAND, and you’re live!

The core of Magic Realms is a powerful procedural generation engine. It intelligently combines pre-designed Voxel Modules to create unique, high-quality level layouts every single time. No two games are ever the same.

Beyond the level design, Magic Realms gives you complete artistic control. The core of this are our “Block Styles”, which allow for instant, one-click theme swaps on any generated level.
This feature lets you completely reimagine your game’s visual style without touching the underlying gameplay mechanics. Transform a standard obstacle course into a high-tech, sci-fi cybercity or a fantasy castle ruin. This hands users the power to rapidly change a game’s entire look and feel, ensuring every creation is truly unique.

And here’s where it gets really exciting for our creators and builders… what if they could design and sell Voxel Modules, or themed Block Sets and Asset Bundles for the entire community to use in their game generations? This isn’t just a game design accelerator, it is creating a new market and opportunity for designers and a richer palette of games for everyone.

It’s Not Just a Map, It’s a Game

Magic Realms goes beyond just creating a pretty map. It intelligently and automatically places all the necessary game components: collectibles, moving obstacles, spawn points, logic components and triggers where needed.

Most importantly, this all seamlessly works with Game Maker. The final experience you export is ready to publish and play immediately. To ensure this works perfectly, we are collaborating closely with the The Sandbox Content Team and the numpad legend CyberDragon, the creator of the official The Sandbox logic templates. This makes sure these generated games are robust, fun, and fully compatible with the The Sandbox ecosystem. We are also in contact with other talented game developers who will help us to unlock amazing game loops and genres in Magic Realms.

The Magic Realms platform will be developed and owned by SAND RUSH Ltd. As this is a community-funded program, access to all modules developed under this proposal will remain freely available for The Sandbox community.

Our team is committed to updating the tool on an ongoing basis to ensure its continued compatibility with The Sandbox Game Maker. Magic Realms is designed to be a powerful starting point. To publish and play, experiences are still loaded into the Game Maker. We do not intend to replace the Game Maker, but rather to complement it by empowering everyone to create games, regardless of their technical knowledge.

Our First Step: The AI-Powered Quiz Module

To get this powerful tool into your hands as quickly as possible, we want to start with a focused first module: a super-fun, AI-powered Quiz Game.

We chose the Quiz Game module for a very specific reason: it allows us to prove the core Magic Realms technology and deliver a fun, fully-functional creator tool to you, the community. With this module, any builder or LAND owner can create their custom quiz on any topic and can start publishing new experiences on their LAND in a few weeks already.

Simply provide a topic (like “Ancient Rome” or “80s Sci-Fi Movies”) and let our AI Assistant generate the entire quiz for you. The full setup, the questions & answers, and all within a beautifully themed, procedurally generated environment to play on.

Next Steps: Community-Voted Modules

Following the launch of the AI-Powered Quiz, our roadmap is designed to be shaped directly by the community. Our goal is to build the multiplayer game genres that you, the creators and players, believe will be the most engaging and beneficial for The Sandbox.

Therefore, our SIP will propose that the next two modules be determined by the community in the discussion phase. Based on initial feedback, strong candidates include fast-paced social and competitive experiences like Parkour and Deathmatch arenas.

Example Module II: Parkour Race

If selected by the community, deliverables would include:

  • Full production of the “Parkour Race” module, including procedural track generation.
  • Various themed Block sets for instant styling.
  • Implementation of specific game logic (lobby, checkpoints, timers).
  • Creation of a new asset pack tailored to the parkour theme (e.g., platforms, obstacles, traps).

Example Module III: Deathmatch Arena

If selected by the community, deliverables would include:

  • Full production of the “Deathmatch Arena” module.
  • Various Arena designs and Block Styles to generate with
  • Implementation of combat game logic (respawn points, health, scoring).
  • Creation of a new asset pack suited for combat arenas (e.g., cover objects, weapon pads).

Benefit to The Sandbox Ecosystem

This tool can Increase LAND utilisation through lowering the capability barrier to building experiences and increase the options for creators and builders, potentially empowering them to have revenue-generating opportunities. Magic Realms directly accelerates The Sandbox’s core mission of building a rich, user-generated metaverse and increases the utility of both LAND and SAND.

For LAND Owners Transforms LAND from a passive asset into an active, content-generating hub, unlocking immediate utility and monetization potential.
For Builders: Acts as a massive accelerator, automating foundational work and freeing up creators to focus on innovation and quality.
For Players: Triggers a wave of new content, making the The Sandbox landscape richer, more diverse, and exciting to explore.
For the Ecosystem Ignites a powerful UGC economic flywheel, driving player growth, increasing demand for LAND and $SAND, and capturing a larger share of the UGC platform market.

Risk Analysis

Risk Assessment Mitigation
Asset Distribution The Sandbox’s current NFT-based asset system could limit the use of assets within generated games, which could impact the visual quality. We will mitigate this by leveraging the upcoming “Free Assets” feature and by enabling creators to integrate their asset collections if possible. Alternatively, the functionality would still be there, but additional assets may be required to optimise games.
Platform Changes Sudden updates to the Game Maker file format could cause temporary service interruptions. Our close, collaborative relationship with the The Sandbox core teams ensures we stay informed of platform changes, allowing our team to adapt quickly.
Community Adoption The platform may see low user adoption, preventing it from achieving its ecosystem goals We engage the community directly to decide on Game Module development and have planned activation events.

Alternatives Considered

We considered two primary alternatives:

  • A Downloadable Standalone App: A downloadable app could be more powerful, but we rejected it due to the high user friction from installations, which conflicts with our core goal of maximum accessibility. Our web-based platform was chosen for its instant, browser-based access, ensuring broader impact.
  • A Fully AI-Driven System: A purely AI-driven model lacks the precision needed to place critical game logic, often resulting in unplayable experiences. Our approach is to use robust procedural generation for core game structure and then enhance it with AI features for creativity (like the Quiz Assistant), combining the best of both worlds for functional and engaging games.

Hello everyone,

I’m incredibly excited to see Magic Realms is now live for discussion!

Our mission with this project is to make game creation fast, fun, and accessible for every single member of our community. We want to empower everyone to turn empty LANDs into vibrant, engaging experiences in just a few minutes.

While this proposal outlines our core vision and roadmap, the true spirit of Magic Realms is developing it together with the community. Your feedback is not just welcome, it’s essential to our success. We want to build this with you. We already received very supportive and encouraging first feedback from various delegates on the initial idea here: Magic Realms: Let's Co-Create the Future of UGC in The Sandbox!

To kick things off, we have two big questions we’d love to hear your thoughts on:

  1. What game genres do you feel are in the highest demand right now? What are you and your friends most eager to play?
  2. Looking at the big picture, what types of experiences do you believe will drive the most player engagement and bring new life to the platform?

Please take a moment to read through the SIP, and let’s get the conversation started. We can’t wait to hear your ideas and build Magic Realms together!

Pepe

Hello @Pepe

Thank you for putting together this SIP.

There’s a concern that if many landowners leverage AI, The Sandbox might become repetitive and lose its distinctive creative edge. Do you think this is a valid worry?

Hi @hishmad, it’s a very valid concern. Our approach with Magic Realms is that AI should be a creative co-pilot, not replacing the amazing creator community we have in the space. It’s a tool for getting games up and running in no time, especially for the LAND owners you’ve mentioned. Many of them never touched Game Maker and probably never will to build something for their LANDs. This is where Magic Realms can make a difference and allow them to create their very own experience with a few clicks.

Now the risk of repetition is mitigated through multiple layers of user control:

  • Structural Variety: The level designs are built using procedural generation, not AI, which already creates endless unique structural combinations. Users can then customize parameters like size, theme or style for each game generator module.
  • Artistic Freedom: While we provide themed “Block & Asset Bundles” for instant styling (sort of a fast-track option), users have complete freedom to apply their custom Blocks to any game design in Magic Realms. Plus in Game Maker, they can use their own assets and add any desired content to make a game even more unique.
  • Strategic AI Use: We only use AI for specific tasks where it becomes a helpful assistant to add rich content to each game. Example is our first module, where the AI generates quiz questions based on a user’s prompt if desired.

Our goal is to accelerate game creation so everyone can participate, without lowering the creative ceiling for what our most dedicated and truly amazing builders and designers in the sandfam can achieve.

I support this SIP. Lowers the barrier to entry for Game Maker. All that’s left is procedural generation and AI augmenting of animated Vox Edit assets now (equipment, avatars, props, etc)!

I sincerely hope this feature will be released as soon as possible. Once implemented, it will greatly reduce repetitive tasks and allow creators to take their experiences to the next level through additional creative work. I kindly encourage the development of diverse variations to support a wide range of use cases. :flexed_biceps:

Thanks for the support, @Lanzer! We see Magic Realms as the essential first step, building the core engine and environment that will one day hold those procedurally generated props and avatars. A lot is happening in this space. Excited to build towards that future with you all!

@shont Thanks for the strong encouragement! You’ve perfectly summarized our core mission: reducing repetitive tasks to unlock more creative work. Your point about supporting a wide range of use cases is exactly why would like to have the community vote for future modules a key part of this proposal. I will make a few first suggestions to vote on here soon. Also, would love to hear voices from the whole sandfam where they see the most potential, we will try to find out on socials as well. We’re ready to get this built. :hammer_and_wrench: :sparkles:

Hi @Pepe , The Magic Realms concept is great, of couse this will be very useful for new creators who wants to build and this can easily turn a good experience designer to a 5star designer.

My Concern is,

Usually TSB will have game jams right, if this concept implemented lot of new creators can join, i agree with this.

But for instance if a person created multiple TSB Accounts with their (Family Members , friends) ID’s ,and if he Submitted 10 Entries using this magic realms , as your concept tells we can create the whole experience in minutes right , like that if different players created spammed accounts and joins for the game jam’s , i think this will disturb the existing creators, builders right. And Also the game jam process will be messy. Lot of time will be wasted for the judges, TSB Staff and mostly existing builders will loose the hope build and continue in the ecosystem.

And also regarding the builders Challenge, if this impact like game jam lot of games mostly in thousands will be produced and TSB will dont have more sand to distribute because it’s a fixed budget ,Even if TSB keep lof of restrictions regarding the reward , still people fud ,that they haven’t received the reward, lof of time taken to review each experience by TSB.

I request you to bring up a solution, and if you have any answer please ,i would like to hear.

Thanks and regards.

Looking at this, it looks like it should be able to create almost any map.

Hi @Anandjoice

Thank you for your feedback and for raising these important points. Ensuring a fair and high-quality creator ecosystem is a top priority for us, and we’ve designed Magic Realms with these exact concerns in mind.

The issue of spam accounts is a platform-level challenge, but our tool has built-in characteristics that naturally discourage this behavior in contests:

  1. For the Builders’ Challenge: The reward system itself is the primary filter. Since prizes are based on metrics like player engagement and playtime, low-effort spam entries from any tool simply won’t get the traffic needed to qualify for the prize pool.
  2. For Game Jams: A game from Magic Realms is a starting point, not a final entry. Our modules are template-based and would require significant creative effort and customization to meet a specific jam theme. This need for genuine creative input acts as a natural deterrent against low-effort spam.

More importantly, our long-term vision is to build a healthy economy around Magic Realms that rewards quality. We plan to introduce a system where creators can design and sell high-quality, themed Asset, Block & Map Bundles. This creates a powerful incentive for our best builders to produce beautiful, meaningful content packs, which directly counters the risk of repetitive experiences.

Our goal is to empower a new wave of legitimate creators, not to enable bad actors. We believe this approach will bring more life to the metaverse while also creating new opportunities for our existing top talent.

Thanks again for your feedback!

Thankyou :+1: @Pepe for the feedback output. Really looking forward and eagerly waiting to test it and how this will be working,Hopefully this feature will reach directly to the legitimate builders, creators.

Cheers.

Hi @shont, thanks for sharing our MagicVoxel shader experiment!

It’s a great example of our vision what all is possible with voxels and blocks. For the initial Game Modules in Magic Realms, however, we are taking a more controlled, tile-based approach to procedural generation. This method is crucial for quality gameplay, as it allows us to embed game logic and triggers with precision, rather than placing them randomly on a vast map.

That doesn’t mean you won’t see epic landscapes in Magic Realms! We envision using similar technology to generate stunning, immersive scenery around the core playable areas, giving players the best of both worlds: a fun, well-designed game set within a breathtaking environment.

I back this 100%

Hide and seek tag game would be fun. Like Gary’s Mod

Expanding pre-built game templates can exponentially grow the content ecosystem.
To attract more creators, non-game diorama modes should be supported as well.
These dioramas offer artistic, emotional, and display-focused experiences.
They are beginner-friendly and great for social media sharing.
Suggested themes include rooftop scenes, underwater ruins, sky gardens, and more.

I think it would be good to add it later. Mafia game (Among Us)

@Lanzer Yes, that’s a cool example. For each game genre, we aim to create the most fun and push the boundaries of what is possible with GM. Is there something in particular you liked about it, or a game loop in Gary’s Mod specifically interesting that we could try to implement?
