The Sandbox DAO Art Commission grant 2025

This SIP is not allocating any additional budget from the treasury, it’s to vote for your favorite artist (soon to be announced).

This art commission is part of SIP-26.

It is based on a pre-selection of artists by the curatorial committee (Brian, Joséphine, Kim), followed by a transparent community voting process leading to the nomination of a winner and the production of an original artwork to enrich the DAO’s NFT collection.

This initiative is built on three complementary pillars:

  • Curation of five artists whose practice resonates with The Sandbox Game’s open metaverse;
  • Community voting on Snapshot to select the winning proposal (from 10th of December);
  • Allocation of a budget between 8,000 and 12,000 USDC (already granted in the budget of SIP-26) for the commissioned artwork. The objective is to strengthen the DAO’s position as an active cultural player within the Web3 ecosystem, while showcasing the unique aesthetic and identity of The Sandbox Game.

THEME AND CURATORIAL FRAMEWORK

Theme: “Chunks of Creativity”

This theme invites a free exploration rooted in The Sandbox Game’s DNA:

  • Dialogue between cultural heritage / voxel aesthetics, digital architectures, and contemporary innovation for Web3
  • A reflection on collective memory, hybrid identities, and virtual worlds;
  • Digital artworks (technique is left to the artists) with a final form delivered digitally and minted as an NFT.

I’m really excited about this SIP – it’s exactly the kind of thoughtful, culture-forward initiative The Sandbox DAO needs right now.

Zero treasury drain, fully funded through SIP-26, strong curatorial pre-selection (huge thanks to Brian, Joséphine, and Kim), transparent Snapshot voting, and a meaningful commission budget of 8–12k USDC to bring a high-quality piece into our permanent collection… this is textbook good governance + cultural positioning.

“Chunks of Creativity” is a perfect theme – it gives artists real freedom while staying deeply rooted in our voxel DNA, collective memory, and metaverse identity. I love that we’re continuing to build one of the strongest DAO-owned NFT collections in the entire space.Full support from me – I’ll be voting YES the moment it goes live.

One small critical question:

Will all five artists’ full proposals (statement, sketches/previews, bio, technical sheet) be published publicly and in a single, easy-to-compare format at least 48–72 hours before voting opens on December 10th?

Having everything clearly laid out side-by-side (ideally in one Notion page or Discourse thread) would maximize informed voting, reduce FUD, and probably drive significantly higher participation. Past art votes have shown that when proposals are scattered or dropped last-minute, turnout and vote quality both suffer.

Other than that tiny polish item, this proposal is already excellent and ready to execute. Let’s make something beautiful together.

Let’s get it out to vote. I don’t think there’s a need for it to require as much support as a normal SIP does. Let’s just get it through to vote

We expect to have the names, bios, and application submissions from the 5 artists this coming week.

At that time, we will edit the original post here + make a comment about the addition of new info in which we’ll tag @delegates.

I possess a strong affinity for the pixel art aesthetic, stemming from a childhood immersed in the classic gaming ecosystems of the Atari, Sega, and Nintendo era.

Hello everyone, thank you very much for your enthusiasm about this Art Grant Commission. :open_hands:

Rest assured, you will have plenty of time to review the artists’ submissions, as voting opens on December 10 and closes on December 24. The winner will be announced on December 24, 2025.

The files will be available for consultation starting Tuesday.

For ease of reading, we have summarized, harmonized, and limited the proposals to one page per artist.

Finally, please bear in mind that all proposals are projects (the final work has not yet been created and their statements of intent are detailed). It is on this basis that you will vote for your favorite project!

We are excited to present these projects from renowned artists in the worlds of art, Web 3, and sometimes even gaming ! :alien_monster:

There will be something for everyone: pixel art, glitch art, photography, and real-time digital painting.

See you on Monday!

Best,

Joséphine
