✅ Application #43 SheExcels Daily: Onboarding More Women into Web3 through The Sandbox DAO

1. Total Grant Amount: $5,000

2. Project Overview

SheExcels Daily: Onboarding More Women into Web3 through The Sandbox DAO is an Africa-focused initiative to educate and onboard 100 African women into The Sandbox ecosystem. The project bridges the gap in awareness, access, and guidance that currently prevents many women from exploring opportunities in metaverse creation, LAND ownership, NFTs, and game design.

The initiative will unfold in three core phases:

  • Education: A 6-day “SheExcels Daily with Sandbox” X (Twitter) series with X Spaces, and newsletter articles/explainers.

  • Technical Onboarding: An in-person event in Nigeria and Kenya (Virtual) for 100+ women to use VoxEdit, Game Maker, explore Sandbox Game and Sandbox DAO hands-on.

  • Empowerment: A follow-up BuildHER Workshop providing mentorship and support to launch Sandbox projects.

Primary Goals:

  • Onboard 100 African women into The Sandbox Ecosystem.

  • Drive adoption of VoxEdit, Game Maker & LAND features.

  • Enable beginner-to-builder pathways for women creators.

  • Strengthen local and diverse creator representation.

  • Promote Inclusivity in the web3 gaming niche and the Sandbox ecosystem.

Target Audience: African women aged 18–45 including creatives, developers, and curious newcomers interested in Web3 and The Sandbox ecosystem.

3. Problem Identification

Despite growing global adoption, African women remain vastly underrepresented in the Web3 space. The root causes include:

  1. Low Awareness & Accessibility: Most Web3 resources and materials are not beginner-friendly or culturally tailored. Feedback from our past campaigns show many women “don’t know where to begin” or think “you need to code to build.”

  2. No Clear Learning-to-Earning Path: After discovering Web3 tools, many lack direction on next steps, funding, or Creator Fund applications.

  3. Lack of Role Models: Few African women are visible in Web3 communities, reinforcing the notion that Web3 isn’t “for them.”

Our Solution:

SheExcels Daily simplifies Web3 onboarding with:

  • Easy-to-digest education

  • Hands-on workshops led by women

  • Mentorship & pathways to building and monetizing

We unlock a new demographic of creators for the Sandbox DAO.

4. Solution Approach

Methodology:

  • Community-Centered Learning: Women-led, culturally relevant instruction reduces the intimidation barrier.

  • Beginner-First Content: Jargon-free threads, articles, and X spaces that break down Game Maker, VoxEdit, LAND, and the Sandbox DAO.

  • Hands-On Workshops: Practical demos at the IRL event; each woman uses the tools in real time.

  • Mentorship: Follow-up sessions help women move from curious to creator.

Expert Facilitation: We will partner with two major game studios in Africa to deliver expert sessions. The game studios are Quiva Games and Gameverse Africa.

@Lanzer please review.

Alrighty, I have plenty of thoughts, most of them positive  . I think we can get this to an acceptable place in a timely fashion.

  1. The first thing I need you to do is please resubmit using the Community Engagement template. You can reuse a number of the things you already prepared. Please make a new post reply in this thread, not a new thread. Instructions are here. I’ll give a full evaluation once I see that.

  2. I have too many grants covering tutorial and education in Nigeria, but your grant is very strong in two key areas causing me to reconsider: your team and your outcomes. Your team seems really capable, thank you for posting all their LinkedIns and X accounts, that was very helpful. Your outcomes look pretty impressive, I put some things to consider below

  • Promote IRL event registration for Nigeria and Kenya (via Luma) for 100 women with 50-60 IRL participants.
  • Please make clear how many IRL events, and if the 50-60 IRL participants is per event totaling 100 women, or if the math calculates another way

50 mentorships facilitated, and 10 Sandbox creator projects activated.

Please make clear in your plan how 50 mentorships is different from the 100 women/50-60 IRL participants. Also, please describe the nature of 10 creator projects… are they going to be experiences from Game Maker? Assets from Vox Edit? Content Creators? Something else?

  • 80% retention rate of onboarded creators throughout the program

This is probably the strongest part of the proposal that made me reconsider the overlapping grants in Nigeria. Please make clear your plan for how you will achieve this. I’m very, very excited to see you targeting this goal. :slightly_smiling_face:

SheExcels and BuildHER

I understand SheExcels is an existing brand, is BuildHER new branding?

Last but not least, please make clear that you can accomplish all of these things before Aug 30th. Payment and supports diminish after this date. If this is not doable by your team, please descope your grant to what can be accomplished before Aug 30th.

Hi @Lanzer

Clarification on Branding and Campaign Structure:

  • SheExcels Daily is the name of our core brand and community initiative focused on empowering African women in Web3.

  • BuildHER is our flagship mentorship and workshop program under SheExcels Daily, designed to guide women from beginner to builder.

  • SheExcels Daily with Sandbox is the title of our specific campaign in partnership with The Sandbox ecosystem.

  • #BuildHERSandbox is the official hashtag for this campaign. It combines our flagship program (“BuildHER”) with the focus ecosystem (“Sandbox”) and will be used to track all activities, conversations, and outcomes on X.

This structure ensures a consistent identity across our programs, communicates our mission clearly, and will help the community and stakeholders to follow and engage with our progress effectively.

Hi @Lanzer, thank you for your evaluation.

To clarify,

1. Drive adoption of VoxEdit, Game Maker & LAND features:

We will drive adoption by hosting hands-on training sessions where participants will learn to create assets using VoxEdit, build interactive experiences with Game Maker, and understand how to use and monetize LAND within The Sandbox. Each participant will complete guided tasks monitored through facilitator checklists and support.

2. Enable beginner-to-builder pathways for women creators:

This will be done through the structured 4-week learning track starting with beginner-level education via Twitter Spaces, followed by workshops, and concluding with a mentorship phase where 10 participants will work on a personal Sandbox-related project (content focused). The goal is to take women from zero knowledge to building something meaningful within the ecosystem like a story-based community piece.

3. Strengthen local and diverse creator representation:

We’re focusing on African women, especially from Nigeria and Kenya, to bring more geographic and gender diversity into The Sandbox creator community. Their projects will be amplified through content features, social media campaign (#BuildHERSandbox), and a community showcase to ensure their work gets visibility on relevant platforms.

Could you please edit your post with the question you are responding to?

Your #1 , 2, and 3 responds to my Q3 additional input. Please update your post with the specifics you gave me.

understand how to use and monetize LAND within The Sandbox

Unsure if you were aware. Monetization within the Sandbox is difficult at the moment. Most of us have not been able to achieve it, even the more well-known builders/studios. If monetization were inaccessible for most of the 100 builders you onboarded, does this change your 80% retention goal?

Please also take a look at my input request in Q4 as well

Hi @Lanzer, thank you for pointing out these concerns. It has now been addressed and updated. please review and let us know if there’s anything else we should adjust or improve.

Thank you for your time!

Got it! Thank you.

As of today, I can only fund up to $3K USDC-- 2K short of what you requested. If we were to resize the project to what you can deliver with 3K instead of 2K, what could you deliver? Please just make a short reply here summarizing what you could do and then adjust your proposal accordingly.

At a minimum, I prefer to see:

  • keep what is necessary to ensure 80% retention
  • keep the final report with analytics/survey data/testimonials
  • maximize the number of women you can onboard

Or if you’re able to manage the same amount of deliverables, please just post that as your response and adjust the total amount in Q2 and milestone amounts in Q4.

I’m ready to accept your grant at 3K.

Hi @Lanzer,

Thank you for your response.

With a budget of $3,000, we will be able to successfully host the X Spaces, onboard 100 women, and work toward achieving an 80% retention rate.

However, we will not be able to include the mentorship workshops, SEO articles, or creator projects at this budget level, as those would require additional funding to cover facilitator fees, get a semrush subscription, and provide incentives for top participants.

We’re making the adjustments to the proposal now, thank you!

hi @Lanzer, Thank you so much for your time and thoughtful feedback. We’ve carefully reviewed it and have now updated our grant proposal to reflect what is achievable within the $3,000 budget.

We’re pleased to share that even with the adjusted budget, we can still maintain our goal of onboarding 100 African women into The Sandbox ecosystem while ensuring an 80% retention rate throughout the program.

We truly appreciate the opportunity to contribute to The Sandbox community and remain committed to delivering meaningful, inclusive impact.
