Learning by Building: Creating The Learning Playground with With 1,000 Students

THE VISION
Create the ultimate learning playground that will empower 1,000 students across schools in the Philippines to build educational experiences, teaching UX design, critical thinking, and digital skills in the process.

ABOUT METAVERSITY
Metaversity by YGG Pilipinas is a free educational platform designed to equip learners with practical skills for the digital economy. In as little as 10 weeks, participants can master essential skills in marketing, productivity, leadership, and more—opening doors to opportunities in Web3, AI, gaming, and emerging tech fields.

Through guided skill trees and unlockable programs, Metaversity offers flexible, on-demand learning focused on real-world applications. Participants learn directly from industry professionals, gaining practical insights and experience.

Metaversity connects learners to internships, gigs, and exclusive events, helping bridge the gap between learning and earning. Active participants earn rewards such as digital certificates, NFTs, and other incentives to celebrate their achievements.

IMPACT
In 2024, we did a Sandbox centric program with our chosen school partner, Sisters of Mary. Over five months, 200 students attended classes once a week to learn how to build on Sandbox. The end goal was to create a digital version of Bonifacio Global City (BGC), a dynamic financial district in Metro Manila, that blends modern architecture, business hubs, and vibrant lifestyle spots.

About the Beneficiary:
The Sisters of Mary School (SMS) provides free education and holistic care to underprivileged children, equipping them with the skills and values needed to break the cycle of poverty. Through this project, students from SMS gain hands-on experience in digital and creative industries, enhancing their technical skills and opening new pathways for future careers.

BIGGER AND BETTER. CREATING THE LEARNING PLAYGROUND WITH 1,000 STUDENTS.
Building on our 2024 pilot, where 200+ students from the Sisters of Mary School created a digital version of BGC (Taguig), we propose a $100,000 grant to transform our plot into a “Metaversity Campus.” It’s a great opportunity for students to envision what their “learning playground” would look like. This time, we will bring this program to 1,000 students from different schools across the Philippines.

Our LAND will be a dynamic Metaversity Campus dubbed as “The Learning Playground”. Students will create Metaversity’s learning playground according to their vision. Through the process they will learn how to masterplan and create assets on Sandbox.

By driving global visitors, we’ll elevate The Sandbox’s brand and establish Metaversity as a premier institution for metaverse learning.

PROPOSED EXECUTION:
Over the course of 12 months, we will produce and roll out learning programs and activities to onboard 1,000 students to create on Sandbox.

  1. Together We Learn (TWL) Online Shows:
Weekly shows streamed on Discord (cross posted on X and Facebook) to showcase VoxEdit and Game Maker programs, student builds and invite visitors to explore building on our Sandbox LAND. Over 700 to 1,000 event attendees weekly.

  2. Sandbox Branded Crash Courses: Produce a new skill tree (5 videos) geared towards introductory Sandbox builder skills. Over 10,000 enrolled learners and growing since we launched in Feb 2025.

See existing certification courses here. Suggested topics for this program:

  • Intro to UX Design
  • 3D Modeling in VoxEdit
  • Game Logic 101
  • Player Engagement
  • Asset Optimization
  • Collaborative Design
  1. Metaversity 2-Week Residency: In place of our 8-week cohort based Marshal Program twice a year, each school partner or group will be assigned a 2-week residency in our Sandbox LAND to create their approved segment.
Residents will be required to accomplish Sandbox Crash Courses and come up with a build proposal before being granted residency.
After the 2 weeks are up, they will do extensive marketing distribution work: guest on TWL shows, run their own events to encourage visitors, create content to drive student ambassador programs.

In true YGG fashion, all residents will receive an NFT’s and SBT’s to commemorate their achievements.

REQUESTED BUDGET:
Total Budget: US$100,000 of $SAND

  1. Together We Learn Shows: US$9,000
    Program & Resource Speakers
    Marketing & Rewards

Looks like you’ve tagged most of the @Delegates. :white_check_mark:
Also, note that I’ve moved this from :speech_balloon: General to :light_bulb: SIP: Ideas.

Now, take note of the “vote” button at the top left of this page. This SIP idea may be invited for curation and advancement based upon the community feedback here in the comments + the votes earned on this page (as compared to other ideas).

I’m sure some folks will have some good questions and feedback about this proposal this week.

hi @biancaygg,

Welcome on the forum and thank you for your idea.

I am sure you are aware that we have already a program called Sandbox academy running in the Philippine based on SIP12 with @markbagogames. I would like that you comment on it as your proposal can be seen as redundand.

Overall my impression on the program is that this is too big. You are moving from a pilot at 200 students last year to 5 times this. (a stepwise approach might be more reasonable eg 2x times)

Speaking about the previous program:

  • What zas its budget ? Who funded it?
  • Besides an experience in TSB what is the outcome of it?
  • Do you have metrics about the number of student that are still builders?

About the 2025 project:

  • Post completion of the 12 months program what would be the purpose of the Metaversity campus?
  • For the TWL shows: in which languages those will be? Same question for Crash courses.
  • Which university you plan to partner with? Why have you selected those?
  • This rolling residency IRL of 4x 2 weeks seems expensive 20 kUSD each 2 weeks? Can you detailed this budget.
  • Struggle to see how you can reach 250 students by university. How big are those universities?
  • Reports: can you share such a report you plan to share using your previous 2024 experience as preview.

Join us Tuesday?

Love the idea and the reach that YGG brings! However budget seems to be quite the stretch for this. Would love to see those numbers come down a notch especially for a first time submission.

Hi @KCL , thank you for the warm welcome and thoughtful feedback.

I appreciate the opportunity to share my thoughts and answer your questions. It will end up lengthy I’ll cut my answers into parts!

I’d like to first share what we envision our work with The Sandbox DAO to look like and where we hope to take this towards.

About the 2025 project:

  • Post completion of the 12 months program what would be the purpose of the Metaversity campus?

Our end goal is to establish Metaversity as a certified Sandbox training partner, using this grant to activate YGG-owned LAND as a live learning and earning environment.

Metaversity by Yield Guild Games (YGG) Pilipinas design programs that directly lead to opportunities whether through gigs, internships, or community leadership. We do this by bridging skill-building with access to the YGG ecosystem and its partners.

YGG is the biggest web3 gaming guild in the world and we have since transformed to become a Guild Protocol, enabling groups to organize themselves, quest and find opportunities together.

YGG was an early believer in The Sandbox, acquiring LAND before Metaversity was even formed. This grant allows us to activate that vision. Starting with builders transforming it into the Metaversity Campus: a collaborative space where students build as they learn, and earn as they build.

This grant proposal is about laying the groundwork for a self-sustaining education-to-opportunity pathway: Programs → Talent Development → Earning via YGG LAND & partner ecosystems

The ultimate goal is that even after the grant ends, this initiative lives on. Powered by our LANDs, maintained by our community, and fueled by a steady pipeline of learners-turned-builders-turned-earners.

Answering questions about the previous program and comparison on SIP12 here:

1. 2024 Pilot Program with students from the Sisters of Mary School

  • What zas its budget ? Who funded it?
  • Besides an experience in TSB what is the outcome of it?
  • Do you have metrics about the number of student that are still builders?
  • We ran the pilot program with a modest $24,000 campaign budget from The Sandbox brand.
  • While the pilot proved impact, the structure was after-school and limited to the boarded high school students (ages 13–16) of Sisters of Mary School, making job placement less feasible.
  • In contrast, this grant enables us to focus on university students and career shifters, a demographic ready for paid digital work.

2 Metaversity’s proposal in comparison with SIP12

I am sure you are aware that we have already a program called Sandbox academy running in the Philippine based on SIP12 with @markbagogames. I would like that you comment on it as your proposal can be seen as redundand.

We admire what Mark has started with SIP12. Our intention is to build on top of it, expanding reach, improving structure, and aligning more deeply with Sandbox DAO’s education and ecosystem goals.

  • Structure & Accountability.

    • SIP12 is run by a solo builder, and we admire that passion.
    • Our proposal will be managed under YGG Pilipinas’ entity, with internal controls, project oversight, and a dedicated Metaversity team. The LAND we will use is YGG-owned, and we are not requesting any assets from the DAO.
  • Geographic Scale.

    • SIP12 is focused in the Bicol region.
    • Metaversity currently has 24 school partners nationwide including Metro Manila, Cebu, Baguio, Davao, and Bicol. That means we only need 40-45 students to join the program to meet our 1,000 learners goal.
  • Clear Path to Opportunity.

    • SIP12 introduces students to Sandbox but the defined path to monetization or career growth is unclear for me.
    • Metaversity integrates with YGG’s ecosystem and networks to place students into real gigs, internship pipelines, and community roles.

We understand the concern around the ability to scale this and more so the budget size, especially for a first-time submission. However, what we’re proposing isn’t really a new experiment at all. We will be applying this grant on top of proven learning products and a working funnels that already serve thousands of learners at Metaversity.

  • Together We Learn Shows: Our flagship weekly show reaches 700–1,000 viewers per episode, serving as a consistent entry point for new learners across the YGG PH community.

  • Crash Courses: Our on-demand library of content that prepares learners to take on digital careers. Think minor classes you need to take on before you specialize! *This was supported via a grant from Open Campus (OC-X / Animoca). We’ve surpassed our target of 5,000 registered learners in just 3 months from the platform launch! These short, skill-based modules will be where students will first engage with Sandbox content.

  • Marshal Program: Our 8-week cohort based bootcamp has grown from 90 students in its pilot (plus 200 from our Sisters of Mary initiative) last year to 460 students this current season. It’s our talent accelerator that prepares learners for real work.

The learning progression looks like this:

TWL Shows → Crash Courses → Marshal Program → Internships & Gigs

The 1,000-student goal unfolds over 12 months through asynchronous onboarding, rolling residencies with school partners, and structured activations integrated into our existing programs.

I hope this provides a bit more clarity to our ambitious goal! I’ll be on Spaces with @theKuntaMC tomorrow to answer any questions in more detail or any questions I may have overlooked.

Hey Thx @biancaygg for your thorough answers. I will check the space recording.

Can you share link to content that you have already generated?
You did not answer me about the language of the course. To me it will be important that it is at least available in English to potentially expand the reach.
Your link to the certification course is not working if oyu do not have an access can you provide an accessible version of it.

I just had a great chat with @biancaygg and @SasanSeyedi.eth about their respective SIP ideas. Sasan’s IDEA might be wrapped into Metaversity’s ongoing educational efforts. They’ve taken that collaboration conversation offline and will update up soon.

For those interested in this thread’s SIP idea (from Metaversity), please have a listen to the X Spaces recording,. The most substantive discussion is between 5 minutes and 35 minutes.

Bianca will be updating the language in this SIP idea tomorrow, offering more insights to budget breakdown, thoughts on milestones, and more.
