SIP-24: Chrysalis Quest, The Sandbox Communities Platform

Hi Cryptokoosha,

For the Builder Challenges a budget of 100 million SAND has already been defined. Last year, only approximately 3 million SAND were executed, which means there is still a significant budget available for this program. The importance of this program is crucial for The Sandbox’s long-term business model—more creators mean significant movement in the land and asset markets to build experiences, and more players mean increased activity in the avatar and NFT markets, such as armor and cosmetics. Ultimately, the sum of all these numbers allows The Sandbox to attract more partners, who are also part of its business model. This is the golden circle of The Sandbox.

Regarding the manual review of missions, we’ve already found a solution we’ve been working on for several months, and it has now borne fruit. We’ve implemented a computer vision module that will automatically review mission screenshots based on defined parameters. We’ve already requested an update to this SIP to include this functionality, and you can see a demo validating a mission screenshot by username and date here: https://x.com/Grumysh/status/1900385597883138414.

Regarding metrics, Excel is indeed a top tool for handling this type of data, and we don’t deny its capabilities. However, managing these metrics manually becomes a complete nightmare as the number of players grows. These are just the initial proposed metrics, and we’re open to adding others that may be of interest.

With the automation of mission reviews, we’ve resolved the dependency that, as we agree, didn’t fully address the issue of mission validation. Thank you very much for the feedback, and we’re working hard to add more value to the ecosystem and our proposal.

Hi @yuelwolf,

Based on all your feedback I am very positive on your proposal and will vote for it. Personally I am seeing it as complementary of the UGC from @Gonzacolo and at a lower price as TheCouncil proposal who proposed the kind of similar features. I am conviced that this will oost the player engagement compare to all what is currently offered by TSB.

We believe this isn’t about one platform versus another but rather about complementarity. That’s the right way to approach it—not as competition.

On our end, we’ll make sure that features don’t overlap between them.

If the SIP moves forward, we’ll be happy to discuss and help in any way we can!

Hi Gonzaloco,

Thank you very much this clarification means a lot to us, and I believe it demonstrates how important it is to have multiple platforms focused on solving different problems with distinct business models, all sharing the same ultimate goal of empowering and growing The Sandbox community. If this proposal moves forward, we’ll be happy to discuss how we can support each other.

Nice to see you stating this. It is important for the community.

Excellent, now THAT’S what I like to see.

I completely agree with GIKIS.

Also, if TSB decides to add these features to its website in 2025, 2026 at the latest, what will happen to the existing systems? Sandbox is already a UGC platform and I think TSB should do it. I voted no for Wakeup Labs, this will be a no vote for SIP.

Tbh, I’m still torn in terms of voting yes or no.

On 1 hand, Ashara Studios, with their in-depth knowledge of player engagement and building, brings in much needed expertise when it comes to designing a UGC platform.

On the other, we’ve yet to see the fruits from the first UGC platform, and are already thinking about funding another.

I wouldn’t be thinking about having a 2nd kid while my wife is currently still in her 1st trimester with the first.

Will need to deliberate further.

Hi Biversen,

According to The Sandbox’s roadmap, there’s nothing planned for this year beyond the achievement system, and it’s unclear how it will function. There’s no precedent for other UGC platforms generating these types of tools internally, which is why external platforms are created around games, as we discussed in this section:

Lastly, if The Sandbox is interested in these types of tools, we could integrate all these functionalities into the main project, which would be another alternative to quickly return funds to the DAO. The Sandbox has already acquired several studios and tools that it has integrated into its platform. However, this isn’t so simple, as these tools currently diverge significantly from The Sandbox’s business model, yet they are extremely valuable for creators—especially those who don’t have them, as they are costly to develop and are creating a significant gap between those who do and those who don’t.

Providing these tools, which during the current Builder Challenge have generated over 15,000 game sessions, means unlocking the potential of hundreds of creators in the ecosystem. This will help create a much healthier ecosystem for creators, economically speaking.

Hi DAO,

I think your observation is very accurate, and within that same analogy, there’s an important difference with Chrysalis Quest: it’s already a validated product. The MVP has been in production for over 6 months, so it’s already a “big kid” with a lot of potential that needs the DAO’s help to reach other creators.

The following insights from this BC may be helpful:

  • 15,000 game sessions in 3 weeks.
  • This was achieved with the launch of 138 daily missions, 6 per day.
  • Day 7 retention above 75%, which is incredibly healthy for games-as-a-service. This means players are forming habits, which increases retention.

We have an incredibly talented team in our game development department, but we can’t deny the positive correlation between the launch of the platform in BC2 and the full implementation of the daily mission system in BC3.

I am very positive on this proposal and the responsiveness of the studio has been exemplary during this SIP discussion. It adresses one of the major issue of TSB game ie the player retention.
It will be a big yes from my side. If at some point the wake up labs platform and that one overlaps the best will win and if TSB wants to integrate it, the product will be already developed and tested .

Of course we can always wait that TSB developers decides to do something as well but it is not on the roadmaps and by waiting that all comes from the top (TSB) I am wondering what do we really bring as added value as a decentralized organization.

Agreed. We could choose to defer until TSB product team develops something, but if we have an opportunity to do it ourselves, I think we should take it.

The fact that this is already a functioning product is something we should take advantage of.

I came to this thread expecting to be underwhelmed, but the responses from yuelwolf have shown me how competent they are. I’m excited to back developers.

My first note is that this is a good project even if all it does is force Sandbox to make an API! The API is so crucial, and it is not on their roadmap for this year.

One thing I would mention for everyone else making their decisions too:

We need to try a lot of things that fail before we succeed

Even if you aren’t particularly excited about the use cases for your own good, it will get smart people paid for making a good attempt at a valuable add for Sandbox. In other words, the upside is worth the high risk in my opinion.

Absolutely agree on this. Nicely worded Diplo

I am inclined to the adoption if it means I can skip the bottle feeding and tantrums and adolescent :joy:

You have my vote.

Hey @yuelwolf
TSB puts creators first. Will this be the case on this platform, or will it be correlated with the budget spent on visibility? This type of platform provided by the DAO should be able to provide an opportunity for visibility for everyone.
TSB organizes all kinds of events, contests, seasons, etc., to create momentum. Will the platform do the same, or will the entire dynamic rest on the creators and studios?

Hi Sebga,

This platform is primarily designed for creators. Therefore, the marketing budget in the proposal is focused on giving the platform as much visibility as possible to reach creators and players within the ecosystem.

Precisely, the goal of creating this platform is to centralize and provide significant visibility to all creators in the ecosystem both large and small so they can more easily acquire users and, with our tools, increase their user retention capabilities.

Regarding the events, we will have our own season pass, where we’ll seek partners, as indicated in this section:

We aim to offer rewards that attract players and involve creators in these season pass events, making it a shared responsibility between us and the creators.

Good day, esteemed delegates,

We warmly invite you to review our proposal and are fully available to address any questions or concerns you may have.

We appreciate your time and consideration.

Best regards

I voted yes because I see Chrysalis Quest as offering a variant of creator tools. I think we should have more than one creator tool offered by one developer, even if some features overlap. In a discussion forum response, the Ashara Studios team broke out the difference between Chrysalis Quest, Wakeuplabs UGC Platform, and Sandbox Platform tools.

I voted Yes. Your tools will make it easier for creators and gamers to communicate which reduces frustration and makes the process more enjoyable for everyone. As you said, this helps retention which is key for our success. This is a needed service. Maybe down the road these features will be on TSB website and your expertise on the subject will have value
