SIP-35: Magic Realms

Hi @sebga, hope you’re having a great weekend!

Thanks for sharing that screenshot, as it helps us clarify this final point of confusion. The pricing page you’ve shown is for Magic Block, which is a completely separate, 100% self-funded application that is not part of any SIP.

We introduced an optional paid tier on Magic Block specifically to cover the operational costs of its AI texture generation and allow pro users to go beyond standard block creation. It is not a DAO-funded tool.

To be unequivocally clear: Magic Realms, the project this SIP funds, will not have a paid subscription for the features planned in this SIP. The core functionality developed under this proposal will be made available to the entire Sandbox community at no cost, as promised.

While both tools will eventually share an optional and free!! account system for user convenience (e.g., managing a cloud collection of blocks, maps and games), their funding and access models are entirely separate. We hope this definitively resolves the misunderstanding.

Hi @shont, to answer directly: Yes, as long as your project remains within the Magic Realms environment, you can re-edit and iterate on it as many times as you like. This gives you full control to change parameters, swap themes, and regenerate the experience.

However, once you export the experience to the Game Maker and begin customizing it there (e.g., adding new assets or custom logic), it becomes a one-way trip. Those specific Game Maker changes cannot be synced back into Magic Realms.

This is due to the current TSB platform limitation: the lack of APIs doesn’t allow for two-way data exchange with the Game Maker. We are strong advocates for open APIs literally for years now, but we can only go so far… We hope better interoperability will be available in the future, as it would unlock even many more powerful workflows for all creators.

Hello everyone,

We are so excited to see that the Magic Realms SIP has officially passed! :star_struck:

This wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support from this community. A massive thank you to every single person who voted, asked questions, provided feedback, and believed in this vision. You are the reason we can now move forward and build a tool that will empower creators and LAND owners across the entire ecosystem.

The Real Work Begins Now

The journey is just beginning, and we are committed to building Magic Realms in the open, with your input every step of the way. Here’s how you can follow along and get involved:

  • Constant Dev Updates: For weekly progress, sneak peeks, and smaller updates, please follow our X account (@thesandrush) and join our Discord.

Thank you all so much for the kind words and support! It means a lot to the entire team.

As promised, we are already in full build mode and moving fast. The community support has lit a fire under us, and we’re excited to share this journey with you. Main focus currently is on the tons of upgrades we need to do on the backend. Now, while I can’t wait to share progress there, I brought something else with me today to share:

First Look: Level Design Mock-up

To kick things off, here’s a quick sneak peek at a level design mock-up we’ve been working on for one of the first Magic Realms modules.

The initial block-out of a quiz arena structure.

Applying a custom block set and theme in Magic Palette

A quick test of the scale and feel directly in The Sandbox

Our Process: Prototyping & Community Feedback

It’s important to note that this is an early concept. We’re using our own tool, Magic Palette, for two key reasons:

  1. Speed: It allows us to rapidly prototype layouts and aesthetic themes before committing them to full production for Magic Realms.

  2. Collaboration: More importantly, it lets us share these early ideas with you to get immediate feedback. We are serious about building Magic Realms with the community, not just for it.

We’d love to hear your initial thoughts on this sci-fi theme direction. This is the first of many updates to come. Let’s build this together! :handshake:

Hello everyone,

Welcome to our second devlog for Magic Realms! As promised, we’re building this in the open and are excited to share our progress as we lay the foundational bricks of this new platform.

This week was all about User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX). Our goal is to create a clean, intuitive, and powerful hub for creators. We’ve been deep in wireframes, assigning color palettes, and working towards a first testable version.

The Vision Takes Shape

Here is a first look at our Work-in-Progress UI mockup. We’re defining the visual language that will be the home for all future Magic Realms modules.

Building on a Strong Foundation

A lot of the work happening in the background is porting the powerful features from our existing Magic Palette tool. We’re not reinventing the wheel, but upgrading it. The entire functionality of Magic Palette will become one of the first integrated “Modes” within Magic Realms.

The Realities of Development

Of course, the journey isn’t always smooth. Sometimes, even font scaling decides to have a mind of its own! Here is a quick peek at the UI when things go sideways once in a while. Luckily, we were able to revert this back to a previous version, haha

What’s Next?

There are still tons of placeholders and layout alignments needed, but things are taking shape. Our next steps involve turning these mockups into a functional front-end and continuing the backend integration.

We’d love to hear your first impressions of the new UI direction. Let us know what you think!

:white_check_mark: Milestone 1 Complete: The Foundation for Magic Realms is Built!

Hello everyone,

We are thrilled to announce that Milestone 1: Foundation of the Magic Realms project is now officially complete and has been confirmed.

This marks a significant first crucial step in our journey, and we want to thank the community and the DAO team for their continued support and oversight. This first milestone was all about laying the essential groundwork for the MR platform. We successfully transitioned from concept to a functional core, and our team is incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made.

Here’s a quick recap of the key features and deliverables completed in Milestone 1:

  • A New, Scalable Platform: We successfully upgraded our entire architecture from the pretty rigid legacy Magic Palette system to the new, modular Magic Realms framework, ready to support all future game modules.

  • Revamped User Interface: The first version of the new, intuitive UI is live. This provides a modern, clean, and efficient workspace for creators. We added smooth transitions between modes and can’t wait to improve it further once you all give us feedback on what works and what doesn’t.

  • Game Logic Integration: The foundational backend components for game logic are now in place, turning the platform from a visual block-based editor into a true game creation and generation tool.

  • 3D Scene Editor & Gizmo: The app can now use and place TSB voxel assets directly in the web browser. There is already a basic transformation gizmo, for rotation and move operations implemented.

  • Upgraded In-Browser Engine: Our 3D rendering engine has been optimized for efficient handling of multiple The Sandbox assets directly on web browsers.

  • Comprehensive Block Management: The new system for importing, browsing, and managing custom blocks is fully functional and will be further improved on over time

Below are a few screenshots demonstrating these new features in action.

Completing this foundational milestone is a huge step and keeps us right on track with our roadmap. Our team is already hard at work scoping out Milestone 2, where we’ll be focusing on building out the first game module: The True/False Trivia Quiz.

Thank you again for your trust and support. We’re excited to continue building in the open and sharing our progress with you all.

:white_check_mark: Magic Realms - Milestone 2 Complete: Quiz Arena Module!

Hello SandFam and DAO Community!

We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of Milestone 2 for SIP-35! This is a massive leap forward that brings the core of the Magic Realms creative vision to life.

Our team has been hard at work building the foundational engine that will soon empower all of you to create, share, and play! We’re incredibly proud of this progress and excited to share the official list of what has been delivered. Here are the key achievements for this milestone:

1. Procedural Generator for Block-based Quiz Arenas

The Procedural Content Generation (PCG) module for creating block-based quiz arenas is complete and operational. Each time the user will generate a new map design for their Trivia Game. The system utilizes a deterministic seeding algorithm for generating reproducible environments, a critical feature that ensures consistent testing protocols and enables shareable user experiences. The quality of the generated output has been validated against the initial Medieval and Sci-Fi thematic Block set we have designed specifically for these generators. On top, these levels even feature hidden caves and parkour sections to explore during wait time for the next Quiz, this way the lobby becomes not just a boring place to wait for the next game but more of a space to explore to bridge downtime.

2. Creator UI Framework

A custom User Interface (UI) for managing creator-facing game parameters has been successfully deployed. The front-end interface effectively abstracts complex backend logic, such as PCG seed values, AI content prompts, and level theme selection, into an intuitive, multi-step in-app wizard. This design aligns with established User Experience (UX) best practices for accessibility and ease of use, lowering the barrier to entry for content creation and making the creation process a breeze even for non-builders.

3. Production of 3 High-Quality Themes

The art production pipeline has successfully delivered three high-quality, engine-ready visual themes. The established workflow, which covers the entire process from initial concept art through working with early mock-ups, then texturing new Block sets, designing the level tiles and final engine integration, has been validated and proven effective. This pipeline is now primed for efficient scaling to accommodate the production of future level design modules.

For the initial release, we will offer a very diverse and rich selection of themes to choose from during game creation:

  • Medieval Castle Map (with auto-asset placement)

  • Sci-Fi Space Station Map (with auto-asset placement)

  • 10 Most Popular Trivia Theme Skyboxes (no assets)

4. AI Quiz Assistant

A functional AI Quiz Assistant has been integrated into the creator toolset. This module leverages AI to automatically generate comprehensive question sets based on user-provided topics, featuring an essential review and modification stage. This implementation balances the efficiency of automation with the necessity of creator control, a key principle in the design of modern AI-powered tools. Users can choose between generating questions to their desired difficulty level (Easy, Normal, Hard). There is also the option to change specific questions or use your very own set of custom questions for later. The Wizard also supports generating questions in any desired language, not only English. The standard question pool is set to 25 different questions of which 10 will be played through per round in-game.

4. Core Quiz Logic

The foundational game logic for the Quiz module has been fully integrated and is functional within the game engine. The system is initially architected by CyberDragon (TSB Logic Expert), and then refined by our new team member IXuRA we hired especially to help us with further Magic Realms game modules. Working with some of the most knowledgeable logic experts in the space ensures system scalability and facilitates the straightforward implementation of new features and game mechanics in future development cycles.

We’re incredibly excited about this progress, and our focus now shifts to getting these powerful tools into your hands. Our next major goal is the upcoming early access release, where the community will be able to create Quiz Games live online for the first time and challenge your friends in a live quiz battle on the arena floor

Thank you for your incredible support. Stay tuned for more sneak peeks and the official early access announcement. We can’t wait to see what you create!
