Team Selection for UGC Platform Development

Thank you for the background! It’s a pleasure to meet you

Potentially, but it could also just be any contract on ETH/polygon like something minted on OpenSea or Manifold. That would be the NFT Bridge option like owning a BAYC avatar and being able to access VIP areas.

The tools for bridging are there, I have access to them with my admin privileges. It’s just a matter of discussing with TSB staff what the best method for this is that won’t be a hinderance to other operations, and automating it so I’m not manually bridging these collections myself every single time.

So currently I have what I consider two very good options that wouldn’t take a significant amount of development, just connecting with my collogues to see what’s possible. I think having both options would be ideal.

Alex’s team has proposed additional features that could bring significant value to the platform, and I would love to experiment with them further. However, these features likely require more dedicated focus and resources.
It may be beneficial to consider an RFP or a separate SIP specifically for designing and prototyping these features. I understand this could shift focus away from their initial proposal, and I certainly don’t want to diminish the value of their work.

Looking back to the main objective, WakeUp Labs’ proposal, with its more cost-efficient approach and stronger focus on delivering a functional platform, seems to better align with the immediate needs.

Both teams bring unique strengths, and I believe Alex’s proposed features could play a significant role in the platform’s future development. I truly hope there will be future opportunities to integrate them into the platform, with appropriate funding for development.

Thinking more about this I agree with @DrMetaverso. The minting pass concept needs to be its own SIP. I would strongly support this new SIP given a few caveats:

  • The Council is paid handsomely to develop it but does not receive recurring royalties on it indefinitely.
  • It is ultimately operated by the Sandbox through their website (or if open source can be operated by anyone)
  • We think harder about the wider use cases of mass minting beyond just access passes to experiences, I imagine there will be many.

As it stands today a permanent 2.5% royalty to a third party to the cheapest and likely most popular NFT mint option on Sandbox seems like an existential risk.

Hello
I would like to see the features of the both candidates (A & B) in the same proposal.
You all have amazing ideas.
I am particularly enthusiastic about the proposals from “The Council” QA LLC” (not affiliated with the DAO Special Council)
Also I am particularly concerned about the transparency that WakeUP Labs offers.

Can we expect the best of this two worlds ? Is a compromise possible in which the two teams would work together?

I think it has to be a separate SIP, giving the complexity and risk that come with it. We don’t even know the TSB’s roadmap, this might already be there!
But I do believe big topics like this one and the merchandise sales, should be in a separate proposal or SIP. They’re too complex to be included in a community website proposal.

Also, I’m not sure if accepting this proposal would mean that the entire proposal, including the additional features, is agreed upon? @theKuntaMC do you know ?

It usually means accepting the entire proposal, yes. Unless an asterisk is added to a proposal and both the proposers + DAO Admin team understand it won’t be acted upon if the DAO votes for it.

A vote for one proposal means accepting its entirety.

The only ways to effectively combine ideas proposed by both here:

  1. Convince one of the authors to make the revisions you suggest before or goes to vote
  2. Vote “abstain” on this SIP and create a new SIP

Tomorrow marks the beginning of the voting process on this proposal.
On this occasion, and despite today being December 24th, we want to take the opportunity to share some reflections that we believe are critical for ensuring the most informed and thoughtful decision.

Key Points:

  1. The Value of a Collaborative SIP

The idea of developing a new SIP collaboratively to explore other solutions makes a lot of sense and could enable the DAO to tackle more complex initiatives in the future. Connecting teams with advanced technical capabilities to those with deep ecosystem knowledge is essential.
However, for this particular case, we believe that moving forward with the current proposal is the right decision. It is fully aligned with the DAO’s interests, having emerged organically from internal discussions.
That being said, we don’t see the need to deliberate on a completely new idea or initiative for this specific proposal. This suggestion has the support of the DAO and represents the consensus we’ve achieved. Later, we can work collaboratively on a broader and more ambitious proposal with all stakeholders involved.

  1. Tailored to the DAO’s Priorities

Our proposal has been crafted with careful attention to the DAO’s original request.
Link to reference. It is specifically designed to address the previously discussed needs. For this reason, we deliberately avoided incorporating features or aspects outside the scope, which could detract from clarity and add unnecessary complexity.

  1. A Path for New Talent

We strongly support the emergence of a new SIP idea and subsequent proposal from this discussion. We also believe in fostering collaboration among professionals to define the most technically feasible and well-architected solutions. While previous contributions within The Sandbox are undoubtedly valuable, we believe it is equally important to welcome new, highly skilled teams to participate in the ecosystem, rather than relying on the same familiar contributors. This approach opens the door for innovative ideas and fresh perspectives. Including more hands, eyes, and minds in the problem-solving process can only enhance the ecosystem.

  1. Milestones and Expertise

From the outset, we have clearly defined the milestones and established a project tracking mechanism, which has proven effective in other collaborations we’ve undertaken with ecosystems like Arbitrum and Optimism. We aim to leverage these lessons learned to contribute to the growth and success of The Sandbox community.

  1. Monetization Challenges!

It’s crucial to acknowledge that defining a sustainable business model for software is no small feat, especially before a product launch. Many assume that a launch will naturally attract subscriptions, user donations, payments for assets, or token demand, but the reality is far more challenging.

Convincing users to adopt a product is difficult enough—convincing them to pay is even harder. While our proposal includes two basic monetization mechanisms, we chose not to present detailed revenue projections because we understand the difficulty of achieving significant user traction and monetization. Success would already be marked by the broader community of non-core Sandbox users leveraging the platform for showcasing experiences and utilizing available analytics. While ambitious projections can be inspiring, we believe it’s more valuable to prioritize honesty and transparency. Setting realistic expectations helps build trust and ensures that proposals are grounded in achievable outcomes.

Final Thoughts:

We are deeply grateful for the thoughtful and productive debate that has taken place. It is through such meaningful discussions that The Sandbox DAO continues to grow as a robust and innovative ecosystem. We sincerely hope that this level of engagement remains a cornerstone of The Sandbox community, fostering collaboration and inspiring new opportunities for everyone involved.

At WakeUp Labs, we are dedicated to helping the projects we are most passionate about thrive, always prioritizing quality and professionalism above all else. We believe our knowledge, capabilities, and proven track record uniquely position us to execute this project successfully and contribute meaningfully to the continued growth of The Sandbox DAO. For this reason, we would be truly honored to have your support.

Thank you for reading, and we wish everyone a wonderful holiday season with their loved ones!
