The Sandbox DAO is excited to announce that we are seeking a team to build a User-Generated Content (UGC) Platform aimed at driving deeper player engagement within the Sandbox ecosystem. Proposal Submission Deadline: 30 October 2024
Community Discussion Period: 4 November - 17 November 2024
Community Voting on Shortlisted Proposals: 18 November - 1 December 2024
First Delivery for TSB team: End of December 2025
Public Website Launch: End of January 2025
The Problem We’re Solving
The Sandbox DAO is focused on tackling the following issues:
Boost traffic to existing Sandbox experiences.
Provide independent creators with a platform to list and showcase their experiences.
Simplify player access to experiences and reward participation with SAND incentives.
Website Objectives
We aim to create a platform that achieves the following:
A website to list, showcase, and promote UGC experiences within the Sandbox ecosystem.
Enhanced sorting and filtering options to improve discoverability of experiences.
Integrated SEO strategies to drive organic traffic to the platform.
Analytics to monitor player counts and engagement metrics.
A fully responsive design that works seamlessly on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
Proposed Deliverables
V1: Basic Platform
Use of existing TSB UI elements
Experience submission and display, with team moderation.
Ensure platform is responsive across all devices.
Non-functional requirements (NFR): Defined response times, SLAs for bug handling, etc.
V2: Analytics Dashboard
Track player counts, engagement, and other key performance indicators (KPIs).
Provide players with an intuitive way to track experiences and access extra incentives.
V3: Advanced Filtering
Sorting/Filtering Capabilities: Users can filter experiences by category, popularity, etc.
SEO Optimization: Ensure the platform ranks highly in relevant searches.
Note: These deliverables are suggestions. We encourage innovation and welcome alternative approaches that meet the platform’s needs.
Helpful Resources
For reference and inspiration, explore these platforms:
Timeline, milestones for project development and delivery.
Technology stack and tools you plan to use.
Budget breakdown for development and operations
Business model and long-term revenue sustainability (note: maintenance won’t be funded by the DAO), revenue model sharing with the DAO.
Maintenance plan, outlining how long your team can maintain the platform.
Team members’ roles and relevant expertise in UGC platforms, blockchain, and gaming.
Include workflows, mock-ups, or any other visual elements to support your proposal.
Standard Revenue Model for the DAO
The DAO receive 100% of the revenue generated by the third-party company until its initial investment is fully recouped.
Once the investment has been recovered, the revenue is split 50/50 between the DAO and the third-party company until the DAO earns 3 times its original investment.
After this milestone is achieved, the revenue split will move to 80/20, in favor of the third party.
Evaluation Criteria
Proposals will be evaluated based on:
Milestones and deliverables
Budget coherence
Legal/compliance considerations
Team expertise
The Sandbox and the DAO team will shortlist 3 candidates for the SIP voting.
SIP Submission to Community
After the Sandbox and DAO team shortlists 3 potential teams, a SIP will be drafted, incorporating the information provided by each team. The proposal will then be presented to the community for a vote (Snapshot or sandboxdao.com)
The community will have the option to vote on the following:
Team A
Team B
Team C
Abstain
If fewer than 3 proposals are shortlisted, the remaining options will default to the available teams, ensuring a fair voting process for the community.
Hmm…This RFP reads pretty close to what Kirill proposed with a SIP called CREATOR FIRST. He withdrew it because it received a Negative Recommendation from the Special Council. Is this RFP inspired by Kirill’s SIP?
Apologies if this was not clear enough. We will refine the “quest” asap.
For context: Basically the idea is that The Sandbox needs a series of projects done in various areas, that can be “offshored”. We have discussed with them and thought it will be a good idea to start “quests” via the DAO, and open them to the community to pitch, and let the best proposal win. There might be other quests in the future, and we have decided to start with this one.
Depending on the number of proposal we will receive, we (together with The Sandbox team) will triage them, and will feature the best 3 on a SIP (see “evaluation criteria”). So the community gets to decide what is the best proposal and vote for proposal A, B, or C (or abstain). The winner gets to develop the website and will be compensated for it, following the SIP usual model (milestone completion etc).
To answer your question, it is different from Kirill SIP “creator first” as his SIP was focused on articles/blogs to help creators, and in this case it is more a repository of creator experiences, a bit like what Fortnite is doing with their community website (see the examples provided in the “helpful resources” sections).
Hope that helps.
We are looking forward to receive many proposals!
Makes sense, thanks for the clarification. I think it’s pretty creative to do an RFP to the community. Evaluation criteria and process seem pretty reasonable too. Looking forward to seeing the 3 get selected!
Would you mind updating us toward October 27th if there are less than 3 proposals? I’d really like to know how many proposals get submitted in the end
Thanks, if you tell me that you haven’t received any proposals, I can gen one up to submit. This isn’t exactly my cup of tea, but I can Project Manage a team together to produce the UGC website.
Excited to be pitching for this along with TheVisionEx, but I am curious what brings about this request? A lot of these features exist on The Sandbox website already, and it seems like it would be more efficient to update the main platform than to fund an independent one. Is the idea to reduce load on the dashboard so it can be more about publishing/minting and move social aspects to a separate space where they can evolve on their own?
Please don’t! I think proposals like this will thrive in competition. I want it to go to the person with the best pitch and voted on by the DAO community. If people back down just because I put my hat in the ring… well that just doesn’t sit right with me.
For me, a UGC website isn’t something I feel passionate about… The only reason I thought to put a proposal in was to help the DAO if no one else raised their hand.
Would take me a bit of research to figure out a tech stack and which firm to hire.
If you look at games like Fortnite etc, there are a lot of community hosting websites that index experiences based on multiple criteria (ex resources, tower defense, etc). In the spirit of community contributions, we don’t want TSB Game to be the sole resource provider. In a sense, it’s another small step in progressive decentralization.
Today, on the main website, you have limited research capabilities. The idea of multiple hubs being created, managed, and hosted by the community is just a perfect SIP, so we made this call for proposals.
All that said… For the record, though: The TSB website is awesome, no doubt. The official dashboard experiences page is great. Hats off to the dev team who does that work!! They already have a backlog of work to do though.
Another reason we’re excited about this being a community project is that certain game creators would like to offer rewards to their players. With a website managed by the community, the game creator can manage the reward, and their distribution, more autonomously (without TSB standing in the middle).
Also, different traffic from different UX and different SEO…
Great discussion here!
I’d love to chat with either or both ya, if ya wanna jump on a call sometime, @KamiSawZe and/or @TheVisionEx
Thanks! We’ve submitted our proposal. I can see some possible adjustments based on what you’ve said here, and happy to discuss that in the coming weeks.
