I haven’t put a ton of thought into this, but wanted to open up the conversation around it.
The Sandbox being able to throw around 3M votes during a weighted vote seems wrong. The Sandbox voting in general feels wrong.
The weighted voting and how to protect against whales determining everything that happens should definitely be a point of discussion going forward, but now the organization that this entire DAO is built around has a HUGE amount of say on the way votes play out is taking it to another level.
Agreed. This is one of the main issues I find with this DAO. The Sandbox (TSB) holding the majority voting powers is not beneficial to the community’s sense of being heard and having their voices counted to drive change when possible.
Apologies for my bluntness, but with this level of Voting Power for the company that created the DAO, it feels more like a dictatorship over the votes rather than a democracy.
Additionally, please note that due to an error in this current voting cycle, the Lands were not counted or recognized as Voting Power. With TSB currently holding 5,360 Lands, that 3 million VP could easily be tripled or even increased tenfold when they are counted in the next cycle!
We definitely need to discuss this concern.
In fact, I believe this issue should be an SIP itself!
With or without the 3M, this DAO will not be a DAO, but rather an ultra-centralized structure controlled by a few people.
It remains unclear whether this will be a game of democracy or a planned allocation of funds in favor of structures connected to The Special Council.
However, you will face all the problems common to DAOs that have a bottleneck in the form of a small group of people who can block proposals or fast-track those that benefit them.
The Sandbox community needs to sober up. In essence, the council members are given unlimited power to control the flow of decisions and funding, which they will inevitably use in their personal interests; otherwise, they would not spend their precious time on this project.
Another problem, for example, is that whoever manages The Sandbox’s Twitter account can influence the audience’s vote through their posts, but this is a minor issue compared to what you have now.
…who else should be Vote with their Tokens in the SandboxDAO than the Team and the Users itself.
Should they build up a DAO with their money and people and than take themselves out of the Game ?
We need their Votes actually to see wat the Team wants to achieve and they can implement their Vision ald Roadmap now without risk of beeing disturbed by a not united Community in the beginning.
This has absolutely nothing to do with the Team members voting. Everyone has agreed that the team members should be allowed to vote with their wallets (except you, given how many team members currently stake).
In this comment you say that users should be allowed to vote but in a different comment you say the complete and total opposite when you say that users shouldn’t be allowed to vote if they chose to stake their SAND according to the Whitepaper. So you want over 85 Million VP from the community and team to not be allowed for voting.
So which is it? Because you are contradicting yourself constantly here.
Of the 1.1 Million SAND we are paying the Special Council to ensure the Community’s Interests are aligned with they have posted a total of 0 times in 2024 in the Discord with about 300,000 Community Members and 14 times between all 12 of them (only 2 posted and 11 of those were Seb) in 2023. And collectively they have posted about The Sandbox a couple times each over the years, except one who never has, but I’m confident he constantly monitors everything without ever interacting.
And yes, I agree having the head of The Sandbox as the head of The Sandbox DAO can lead to a conflict of interest, but at least we can tell from the others that they are active in the community! 14 posts and a few tweets among 12 people is considered active and means they are well aware of the Community’s Interests and can be entrusted to protect them for 1.1 Million SAND, right? If not, ignore everything else I said.
