Lanzer SIP #10 - Establishing Sandbox Wallet Voting Criteria

This SIP would establish criteria for Sandbox’x 27M voting power to be used when voting in the DAO.

Credit to DrMetaverso for suggesting that there be criteria for Sandbox’s use of its 27M voting power.

I’m prepping the SIP now. There are a few things that aren’t very controversial, but some things need a lot of discussion. What are your thoughts, SandFam?

The Sandbox wallet shall be used in these instances only, and in no other instances shall it be used, except when:

  1. As a veto wallet to stop governance attacks. Example: When Compound DAO was attacked back in July.
  2. If it gets used but NOT as a veto against governance, it may only vote ABSTAIN. Example: Special Council decides via majority vote to use it to achieve quorum on SIP-11 Ambassador Program.

What do you all think? Are there any special cases when we’re okay with it being allowed to vote YES, NO, or ABSTAIN?

Note: Of the 15 SIPs so far, Sandbox wallet voted in four of them: SIPs 4, 5, 11, 12. All four passed. Of the 11 it didn’t vote in, only 5 passed.

Lanzer SIPs:

  1. Enable Window Resizing & Resolution Options
  2. Creating a Roadmap for Sandbox Releases
  3. Insert In-game Inventory Filter for Equipment
  4. A Study of Revenue Options for the Sandbox DAO
  5. The SandDex - A list of top Landowners & SAND holders + public ways to contact them
  6. The SANDDAO Podcast - An educational & news show about the Sandbox DAO
  7. The Builder’s Challenge Working Group (BCWG)
  8. Sandbox Governance Working Group (GWG)
  9. Reducing Sandbox DAO’s Voting Quorum Requirement
  10. Establishing Sandbox Wallet Voting Criteria
  11. Sandbox DAO Transparency Act (SAND-TRA Act)

I don’t see how an SIP will be able to directly affect the way TSB decides to use their vote. Even if these were to pass, enforcing it will be impossible since its TSB’s VP to use.

It’s like if we did an SIP to set a criteria for how you or I use our personal VP. Choosing to do otherwise will just make us look bad but beyond that, we can still vote however we please.

Yeah that’s true…but I still think we should try. I believe Sandbox will honor a SIP that establishes criteria for when they use the wallet. Right now it’s difficult for us to anticipate when it will be used or not.

I would tend to agree with DAO on that one Lanzer. Not sure we will be able to acheive anything here. First because no-one knows who is actually controlling this wallet qnd in case rules are not followed it will be too easy to reject responsibility to who ever…
Second because if you start like that; what can prevent me to propose a SIP to prevent you Lanzer to vote for any SIPs ?

I think it’s worth it to try @KCL . The worst Sandbox can do is decline to honor the SIP. Best case, they honor it. At the very least, we’ll have it on record that we wanted the wallet to be used under specific conditions, versus it being used without comment by SandFam.

The DAO vote seems the best place to make that request known.

I think Seb would seriously consider the SIP if it passed DAO vote.

Also, interesting thing I just calculated:

Of the 15 SIPs so far, Sandbox wallet voted in 4 of them: SIPs 4, 5, 11, 12. All four passed. Of the 11 it didn’t vote in, only 5 passed.

This is a problem of quorum and not TSB’s VP. TSB only voted to achieve quorum.

I think the better and more urgent mechanic to address is quorum.

I think we can do both. I want to give the delegation system time to bear fruit on helping SIPs reach quorum. Meanwhile, the Sandbox wallet is a wildcard that we don’t know how to account for.

I envision this SIP making it less of a wildcard.

Hi Lanzer, this could be achieved without SIP. Just call out Seb on X asking for a commitment from him as I think he is the one controlling the wallet (when you win an Estate it is Seb that is triggering the estate transfer to you). At least that is how it is looking like from the email exchange. I have also been told once by Bellbyche (land sale responsible) that Seb was controlling the wallet.

That’s good to know, thanks KCL!

I think this has been done at length on X/Twitter and the DAO forums. I think at this point it is reasonable to take it to a DAO vote to establish that criteria so that we can use it as a building block.
