Lanzer SIP #11 - Sandbox DAO Transparency Act (SAND-TRA Act)

It’s time, SandFam. I believe we need to establish transparency standards. Transparency should be a standard that we make a habit. It will hurt less to add it now, while the DAO is young.

Thoughts on the below?

What

Enact the Sandbox DAO Transparency Act. I’ll call it SAND-TRA from now on. It’s a body of rules that establish disclosure standards within the Sandbox DAO.

  1. Creation of DAO Org Chart. An organizational chart of the Sandbox Foundation and DAO Admin Team be made publicly available on the SandboxDAO website, listing the position titles and persons fulfilling them. The Org Chart should be arranged by the position/person who can remove/appoint another position/person. Each person’s name needs to link to a profile. LinkedIn is acceptable, or company website containing a biography description, or an X/Twitter handle, or PDF resume. The intent is to know who is leading the DAO and participating in its administration. An example of an org chart can look like this

  2. Creation of DAO Stakeholder Diagram. A simplistic graphical relationship map showing the visible connections between entities within the Sandbox DAO. Each entity listed needs to have a link that SandFam can click to learn more. This can be a company website, business registry, or social media profile. A connection exists when one entity becomes a direct report or has authority over people, processes, or budget, or can approve/disapprove a process or position, or is a service provider. Money does not have to change hands for a connection to exist. It can be based on partnership arrangements, joint ventures, service agreements, an exchange of goods and services, or any other arrangement that creates an influencing factor in DAO decision-making. An entity must be added to the DAO Org Chart within 30 days of initiating its involvement with the DAO. The intent is to have relevant and timely knowledge of which entities are involved in the DAO and their relationship to one another. The chart on SANDDAO 34 is a close example, minus the technical and product listings.

  3. Disclosure of Sandbox.game profiles on SIPs. Each SIP lists the Sandbox.game profile link of its authors. This includes SIPs created by the Sandbox Company. Listing a Sandbox business profile is fine. Listing a profile link specifically created to avoid revealing their Sandbox identity does not meet the intent of this requirement. The intent is for voters to be allowed to see the author’s standing within the Sandbox. I’ll start with an example of my Sandbox profile: https://www.sandbox.game/en/users/Lanzrr

  4. Public Council & Board meetings. At least one Special Council and Advisory Board meeting a month be held in a public setting. If meetings are not held more often than monthly (such as quarterly), then that meeting be public. Meetings are not required to allow the public to speak. Examples of public settings are Twitch, X/Twitter, Google Meet, Zoom, and other platforms. The intent is for SandFam to listen and gain awareness of Council and Board meetings.

Why

Establishing a standard of transparency solves many problems before they begin. It scares away bad actors and makes unacceptable behavior more easily detected. At present, SandFam currently rely on each other to figure out what is going on, who is involved in what, and how things are connected. We see the effect that an absence of transparency has in the ApeCoin DAO right now, and across both our DAOs there is unnecessary tension, suspicion, conflict, and increased difficulty in participating have led to a reduction in participation.

There is no need for this to happen if we are transparent.

How

If this SIP passes, the DAO Admin Team will be responsible for constructing #1 & 2. If it is contracted out to another entity, that entity gets listed on the DAO Org Chart. To lighten the burden on the DAO Admin Team, the MetaWorlds team volunteers to help construct the Org Chart & Stakeholder Diagram at cost (approximately 2K $SAND). For #3, the DAO Admin Team puts it in the new SIP Template Typeform. To lighten the burden on the SC & AB, the MetaWorlds team volunteers to facilitate #4 at cost (5K $SAND) until Dec 2025.

When

If this SIP passes, the DAO Admin Team, SC, and AB is to implement all 4 available within 90 days.

Who

Lanzer SIPs:

  1. Enable Window Resizing & Resolution Options
  2. Creating a Roadmap for Sandbox Releases
  3. Insert In-game Inventory Filter for Equipment
  4. A Study of Revenue Options for the Sandbox DAO
  5. The SandDex - A list of top Landowners & SAND holders + public ways to contact them
  6. The SANDDAO Podcast - An educational & news show about the Sandbox DAO
  7. The Builder’s Challenge Working Group (BCWG)
  8. Sandbox Governance Working Group (GWG)
  9. Reducing Sandbox DAO’s Voting Quorum Requirement
  10. Establishing Sandbox Wallet Voting Criteria
  11. Sandbox DAO Transparency Act (SAND-TRA Act)

Hi Lanzer,

I see clearly the need for transparency in the future but at this stage with not full decentralization effective and Cyril mentioning that there is no hierarchy I am not sure it is worth. Maybe you can share some criteria for certain roles already present in others DAOs and that you would see coming in future. eg sets of criteria per role that we can maybe disussed and exchange first on and apply when it will be the time. With regards to preparing and org chart or preparing a stakeholder mapping I ma not sure we need really a SIP on this >> You started already

Hey @KCL ! Cyril did mention there isn’t a hierarchy. There is still someone who has the authority to appoint or remove teammates. That’s ultimately who has the power in the relationship.

I did start a relationship map, but it’s not going to be better than the DAO Admin team revealing the true picture and keeping it updated.

There is no hierarchy; it’s a flat org chart.

Do you really want to use more admin time and resources to develop this, Lanzer?

You’ve got a direct line to us now, too, ya know? We can easily jump on a call like we did last week, where I told you directly that the DAO has a perfectly FLAT structure.

It may operate like a flat org chart day-to-day, but someone decides who gets appointed and removed from each position. That’s the Org Chart. And whether the Admin Team operates flat or not, the bylaws of the Foundation certainly establish a hierarchy. That’s one of my next podcast episodes :slightly_smiling_face:

I struggled with writing it because of this. I realize the DAO Admin Team is task-saturated. I don’t want to add to its plate.

From what I’m observing in the community, this is an instant pressure relief valve with high-value return to both the DAO and the voters.

Tell ya what…how about I amend the draft SIP to say that the MetaWorlds team will complete the Org Chart & Stakeholder Diagram…I’ve done a dozen of them. All we need is two hours of Cyril’s time, or it can be you after getting the details from Cyril. You get me the information, I’ll create it, make it look all pretty, and whatever profile links I can’t find, I’ll double-back and request that from you. Then it’s done and ready to go on the website.

That way, everyone wins. DAO Admin Team spends minimal time implementing this SIP, the community gets one of two major questions answered in a way that they can trust but verify, it goes on the SandboxDAO website for both past present & future to see, community feels confident that it’ll get timely updates, and updates should require infrequent & minimal effort to maintain.

Sound fair?

All true, all true. And I felt really, really encouraged after our call. I’ll schedule another 1-on-1 with you. Even after SANDDAO 34, I only have my best guess as to who sits where doing what. As you and Cyril pointed out, I didn’t get it 100% right. I just don’t think I or anyone else should need to guess, I don’t feel I’m asking for anything unreasonable here.
