What is a Delegate?

Delegates are voting on SIP on behalf of community members who decided to delegate their voting power to them. They play a crucial role in the decision-making process.

  2. Recognition: Delegates will be recognized on our platform with a dedicated profile, showcasing your commitment and influence within the community
  3. Community: Engage more deeply with the Sandbox community, working alongside like-minded individuals dedicated to our collective success

How to Apply?

  1. Fill out this application.
  2. Review our Code of Conduct.
  3. Our project management team will review applications to verify that the candidates meet the necessary criteria for becoming a delegate. The Top 12 verified will be featured on the Sandbox DAO Delegation page.
  4. Criteria for Selection:
  • Understand the DAO’s mission and governance
  • Committed to acting in the best interest of the community.

Applied!

I know a lot of delegations have been waiting on this. I’ll spread the word to BOTB, WHALE, and Mocaverse

@Lanzer , according to the terms and conditions of the delegation, if I am not mistaken delegates cannot submit SIPs. Do not know if this retro-active.

Hey KCL! Yeah I saw that too. Depending how it’s interpreted, I’ll have a decision to make. :slightly_smiling_face:

What about you, are you going to apply? :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes I did. Lets see what would be the outcome.

Nice. Well good luck! We’ll both see what happens

@Geraldine So I started delving into delegations because I didn’t know much about them. I ran across this interesting podcast from 2 years ago. Both are experienced DAO and Delegation organizers.

One of them mentions that 75% of all Compound DAO delegates have never voted on a proposal. They recommended that delegate leaders be rotated every once in awhile to prevent stagnation.

I don’t fully understand the mechanics behind how Sandbox DAO is doing it’s delegations, but is it possible to rotate delegate leaders?

Hi @Lanzer, thanks for your feedback. To encourage maximum involvement from the verified delegates, they will be showcased on the DAO website. These profiles are selected based on a thorough evaluation of each delegate’s experience and motivation. Each delegate is given a score out of 5, evaluated across three key criteria: experience, forum activity, and their voting record.

We believe this approach will help ensure that the most active and committed delegates represent the community.
Additionally, as outlined in our code of conduct:

Delegates are expected to actively participate in the governance process by voting on all proposals and engaging with the community in the SIP threads. This ensures that the voting power they’ve been entrusted with is used effectively.

Should a Verified Delegate fail to vote on a SIP, the DAO team will reach out to address the situation and ensure continued engagement.

It would be an absolute honour to become an official delegation, would we need delegation representatives? And if yes , how many?

I endorse @Cryptosheep from BOTB Delegation. They are extraordinary stewards of DAO resources.

This looks like a brilliant opportunity for potential delegates.

Perhaps even I am interested.

Let’s do this!!

I’m going to do a podcast episode in the near future on this. Some thoughts came to mind when reading the Code of Conduct

  • Transparency in Conflicts: Even potential conflicts should be disclosed, ensuring that all governance activities are conducted without bias or personal gain influencing decisions. Delegates are also required to not vote on any proposal where a potential conflict of interest exists.

I think this one and “Abstention in Cases of Influence” might need more discussion if it’s interpreted as the entire delegation cannot vote when one of its members submits a SIP. Some of these delegations has thousands of members. For instance, WhaleVault has something close to 1.5K lands/7M+ voting power representing 15K+ members. Bulls on the Block has hundreds of members. I think Mocaverse has 1M+ members and who knows how many thousands of lands…

Something about expecting an entire delegation to not vote strikes me as unreasonable. Maybe we just limit it to the delegate leaders of a delegation? That seems more reasonable to me.

Avoidance of Excessive Delegation: Delegates are discouraged from encouraging excessive voting power delegation to avoid undue influence or manipulation of governance processes.

The meaning of this is unclear to me. What is an example of “excessive voting power delegation”?

DAO Team,

I dedicated episode 28 of SANDDAO Podcast to the delegation system. Here are my summary remarks after deep diving into the Code of Conduct, Delegate Dashboard, FAQs, and this announcement post.

General code of conduct: The Sandbox DAO should: agree to and abide by The Sandbox DAO Terms of Use and & be respectful

  • I recommend examining the usage of “should” and “shall/must”. “Should” means optional, “shall” means mandatory. The sentence in the “General code of conduct” section seems inconsistent with the FAQ and the application

–Voting Obligations: Delegates are expected to participate actively
–Diligent Review: Prior to voting, delegates must conduct a thorough, selfless, and unbiased review of each proposal
–Constructive Feedback: Delegates should provide feedback that is well-researched, supported by evidence, & devoid of personal attacks
–Rationale for Votes: Delegates must communicate reasoning behind their voting decisions

  • BIG KUDOS TO THE TEAM! This seems like a great thing to improve delegate conduct and participation. Big kudos to the team!
  • DOAn the Rabbit Hole podcast: “75% of all Compound DAO Delegates have never voted on an on-chain proposal”
  • APE_U, ApeCoin GWG, Aaron Haber launching DELEGATE THIS in ApeCoin DAO due to lack of delegate feedback

Primary Responsibility: Delegates must prioritize the long-term success and development of The Sandbox ecosystem. Decisions should reflect the broader community’s interests

  • Most delegates have a focus or niche. They aren’t generalists.
  • Recommendation: Remove the words “long-term” and the “Decisions should reflect the broader community’s interests” sentence.

Disclosure of Conflicts: Delegates are required to not vote on any proposal where a conflict of interest exists.
Transparency in Conflicts: Delegates are also required to not vote on any proposal where a potential conflict of interest exists.

  • If interpreted as the entire delegation cannot vote, will need further discussion/refinement. Some delegations have thousands of members.
    • WhaleVault: 15K+ members
    • Mocaverse: 8K+ members
    • Bulls on the Block: 100+ members
  • Recommendation: limit to just delegation leaders?

Disclosure of Conflicts: Any actual or potential conflicts must be disclosed to the community promptly.
Transparency in Conflicts: Even potential conflicts should be disclosed

  • Another example of should vs shall/must contradiction.

Avoidance of Excessive Delegation: Delegates are discouraged from encouraging excessive voting power delegation to avoid undue influence or manipulation of governance processes.

  • The meaning is unclear
  • Recommendation: Provide an example of “excessive voting power delegation”?
  1. Optional Participation and Accountability
Opt-In Commitment: Delegates may choose to opt into this Code of Conduct by indicating their agreement in the application form
  • The application & FAQ does not make this seem optional
  • How likely is someone selecting “No” really have at being approved by the DAO team? If it is unlikely nor not likely at all for a delegate to be approved without “opting in” to the DAO, then it isn’t truly optional.
  • Recommendation: Make the wording consistent with the intent.
